What Do You Think? Dating and Your Identity in Christ

 These “What Do You Think?” articles can be used for individual reflection as well as group discussion times. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at btomovement@gmail.com

Sometimes we tell ourselves stories, and these stories can keep us from committing in our relationships. We believe a lie, and we don’t realize what God is saying about us instead.

For example, a young man may not believe he’s good enough for a successful young woman. His feelings of inadequacy could make him break up with God’s destiny, rather than sharing his true feelings and actually committing to her.

Living in our identity as God’s children means believing what God says about us.

What Does God Say?

God is pleased with how He created you. You are valuable to Him and to others, and His opinion of you is the most important one. He sees you as a product of the many qualities, gifts, and talents He’s given you, and He sees Jesus in you, which makes you look amazingly beautiful in every area of life.

Wherever you are in your walk with Him, you get to lay aside the bad habits and the mistakes made in the past and embrace your best qualities instead. When you’re struggling, repeat Psalm 139:14 to yourself:

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

What Do You Think?

  1. Who are you? How would you describe your identity?
  2. Is it easy for you to believe what God says about you in Scripture? Why or why not?
  3. Do you believe your heavenly Father wants to help you find that special person you’re going to spend the rest of your life with? Why or why not?
  4. How do you connect with God?
