2 Simple Truths When You Feel Forgotten

Do you feel forgotten? Maybe it’s just a small feeling, a vague sense that you can’t quite shake out of your soul.

Here are two simple truths from Scripture about who God is and how He works. This week, may your heart really come to understand how much He remembers you.

God Is Moving Even If You Can’t See It

The heavens tell of the glory of God;
And their expanse declares the work of His hands.
Day to day pours forth speech,
And night to night reveals knowledge. (Ps. 19:1–2 NASB)

But Zion has said, “Yahweh has forsaken me.
My Lord has forgotten me—I’m all alone.”
Yahweh responds, “But how could a loving mother forget her nursing child
and not deeply love the one she bore?
Even if there is a mother who forgets her child,
I could never, no never, forget you.
Can’t you see?
I have carved your name on the palms of my hands!
Your walls are always my concern. (Isa. 49:14–16 TPT)

More is going on around you than the little you’re aware of. You are surrounded by things that are shouting out the truth about God: who He is and what He’s doing.

Many of us are convinced at one level or another that we are alone, that our hopes and dreams have stalled out, that God isn’t doing anything.

But Psalm 19 gives us a glimpse into what’s actually happening—the movement of God all around us. Isaiah 49 lets us know what is real and true and trustworthy, no matter how we’re feeling.

If you are in a place where you feel forgotten, set aside, or like God has withdrawn from you, here’s something you can pray:

God, I don’t want to miss what You are doing in my life. I know that You are doing amazing things, and I want to be a part of those amazing things. I don’t want to overlook them. I want to see them and respond in worship. Would You open my eyes so I can see what You are doing around me? In Jesus’ name, amen.

Activation: Pray the above prayer every morning this week, and line up your expectations with faith. There is power in your words, and when you ask God for help, He hears you. Those prayers are precious to Him, and your “walls” are always before Him.

God Wants to Restore His Joy to You

Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and make me willing to obey you. (Ps. 51:12 NLT)

Many of us are struggling with the things we see, hear, and feel in the world around us. We just want a break, but it’s like we can’t escape this “hole” filled with exhaustion and despair.

When we feel trapped by these things, we can ask for help. The Lord is waiting to restore the joy of our salvation to us. His joy is right there at the door, hoping we will hear its knock.

If you feel tired and like there’s no joy in your relationship with God anymore, if you feel “hard” toward Him in any way, or if you recognize that you feel more despair than you do faith—here’s something you can pray:

Father God, I know that Your way is right. In the middle of everything going on around me, I know that YOU are the truth. So I look to You. Please come and restore me. Holy Spirit, remind me of what is true about God. Give me a heart that longs for You, and please fill me with delight again at the sound of Your voice. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Activation: Write or print out Psalm 51:12, and put it in a place where you’ll easily see it. Every time your eye catches it this week, speak it out and say, “This verse is true for me. This is what I’m asking God for.”

Over the Next Few Days…
