Do You Feel Like a Mess Right Now?

Photo by Rene Asmussen

Do you have a situation in your life where God has told you, “Don’t be afraid,” but it’s really hard to be fearless in that area? In fact, you kind of feel like a mess?

Every time you choose to trust the Lord instead of listening to your fears, you are giving Him a great gift. The decision to trust the Lord and not be afraid is an act of worship, which is the most important thing we could ever do.

Some of us assume that in order for something to be worship, it has to look a certain way, but sometimes worship is messy! There are times when it doesn’t feel like worship at all, but even our attempts to trust God are important to His heart. They mean something to Him, and they are precious to Him.

It’s okay for your worship—your attempts at trust—to be messy. God is the best and kindest Father the world has ever seen, and He actually delights in messy things. In certain ways, all of us are like little kids who are just learning how to use finger paints. Everything we do is messy, but He loves our “works of art” because we are His kids.

You might feel like a mess today, but He sees your attempts to trust Him, and He says, “This is acceptable to Me. This is special.”

Morning Declarations

Feel free to print the following declarations off or save them on your phone, and read them out loud in the mornings as a reminder of God’s love and how much your trust means to Him.

#1: God is good with heavy things

Give your burdens to the Lord,
    and he will take care of you.
    He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. (Ps. 55:22 NLT)

Here are three declarations based on Psalm 55:22:

  • “The Lord wants to carry the heavy things for me. He doesn’t want me to carry them by myself or worry about anything.”

  • “God really is taking care of me.”

  • “He is supporting me today, and He will support me again tomorrow. He will be there to help me every day of my life.”

#2: God is good at helping His children when they’re exhausted because of fear

But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him]
Will gain new strength and renew their power;
They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun];
They will run and not become weary,
They will walk and not grow tired. (Isa. 40:31 AMP)

Here are three declarations based on Isaiah 40:31:

  • “As I wait for the Lord and focus on Him, not my fears, I will become stronger.”

  • “He is the answer whenever I am exhausted because of fear.”

  • “I’m going to make it—because of Him.”

Do you feel like an anxious mess?

How many choices do you make each day because of fear? Have you ever thought about it? It’s amazing how much we do because we’re afraid.

Every time you choose to trust the Lord—even if you feel like you’re doing a bad job of it—you are worshipping Him, and He thinks it’s beautiful. So take courage, beloved child of God! You are not the mess you think you are, and He is coming to save you.
