February Devotions: Resting in the Peace of God

MONDAY

His Peace INCREASES over Time

There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace
On the throne of David and over his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness
From then on and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of armies will accomplish this. (Isa. 9:7 NASB)

God’s heart toward you is abundance, increase, more than enough, an overflowing cup. Growth is part of your nature in the Lord.

  • You don’t have to worry that God will give good things to everyone else but not to you.

  • You will never reach the “bottom of the barrel” of God’s goodness.

  • His affection for you is fresh and new, not tired at all.

  • His peace will not run out or grow weak.

Today’s journaling idea: Ask the Lord to talk to you about His peace. Write down what He says.

May your Monday be blessed, and may you come to feel God’s peace in a new way.

TUESDAY

He’s the God of Peace

For God is not a God of confusion, but of peace. (1 Cor. 14:33 NASB)

And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. (Col. 3:15 NLT)

Fear is a powerful emotion that, if allowed, can shut down a person’s heart and convince them there is no option outside the fear.

But fear lies. The next time you feel afraid of something, even if it’s something small, pause and ask yourself what the truth is instead. What does the Bible say? God knows the truth about the situation; the fear does not.

Today’s journaling idea: Read 1 Corinthians 14:33 and see it for what it is: a foundation for your life. Ask the Lord to tell you more about this verse and how He’s the God of peace.

May your Tuesday be blessed, and may you experience the Lord’s peace in everything you do today.

WEDNESDAY

Peace That Overcomes the World

And everything I’ve taught you is so that the peace which is in me will be in you and will give you great confidence as you rest in me. For in this unbelieving world you will experience trouble and sorrows, but you must be courageous, for I have conquered the world! (John 16:33 TPT)

The peace of the Lord is a mightier force than we realize. Most of us picture peace like a cloudy substance that’s hard to hold on to, but Jesus is the Prince of Peace and He actually conquered the world. That’s how strong His peace is.

Today’s journaling idea: Think of one thing that’s stressing you out. Take that thing to God, and ask Him to reveal His peace to you. Journal what He shows you.

May your Wednesday be blessed, and may you come to see Jesus and His peace more clearly.

THURSDAY

Peace When You’re Confused and Don’t Know What to Do

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:6–7 NLT)

Whenever you don’t know what to do, go spend time with God. Picture yourself as a young child and sit on His lap. In the safety of His presence, talk to Him about your fears and confusion, and find out what He’s saying to you.

When the peace of Jesus speaks, it calms storms. He can do that with your storms too.

Today’s journaling idea: Sit down with God and ask Him what’s on His heart for you.

May your Thursday be blessed, and may your heart experience the peace of God.

FRIDAY

Tapping into Others’ Peace

Your love has impacted me and brings me great joy and encouragement, for the hearts of the believers have been greatly refreshed through you, dear brother. (Philemon 7 TPT)

Sometimes all of us need to tap into the peace someone else has. Maybe the storm is strong and we just don’t know what to do. Maybe we’ve been fighting this thing for so long that we can’t even see straight anymore.

If you need to make a decision, but you don’t know what to do or what God is saying, you may want to go to a mentor you trust and ask for advice. Other people can often see what we can’t, and they can help bring clarity where we might feel confused and overwhelmed.

Today’s journaling idea: Think of a question you’d like to ask a mentor. Talk to God about this question and see what He says. Has He put a certain mentor on your heart to talk to?

May your Friday be blessed, and may your confidence in the Lord rise up strong.

SATURDAY

Learning to Think According to Peace

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. (Prov. 23:7 NKJV)

How you think shapes who you are. Choose to think good thoughts that line up with God’s truth.

  • “I’m afraid that God will reject me because I make mistakes, but the Bible says He will never leave me or forsake me.”

  • “I’m afraid that God’s plans for me will never happen, but He says He always fulfills His promises. So that’s what I choose to believe.”

  • “I’m tired of waiting and I’m afraid that I’ll never get what I’m hoping for, but the Bible says that those who hope in the Lord won’t be disappointed.”

Today’s journaling idea: Think of one area where you KNOW you aren’t thinking according to truth. Maybe you’re dealing with fear, doubt, or unbelief. Whatever it is, take that area to the Lord and ask Him to talk to you about it.

May your Saturday be blessed, and may you know the Lord’s peace at a deep level.

SUNDAY

Choosing His Peace When You Could Choose Something Else

So keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always. (Phil. 4:8 TPT)

You don’t have to think about what the world thinks about. You don’t have to assume what the world assumes—you get to think according to the flow of heaven, which looks like Jesus. All His kindness, all His love, all His peace and patience, all His hope—those things get to “rule” your thought life, and you can let go of all worries and fears.

Fear lies. The peace of God does not.

Today’s journaling idea: Choose to think according to Philippians 4:8 today, and see what happens. Do you have greater peace?

May your Sunday be blessed, and may your heart OVERFLOW with peace and hope.
