Simply Declaring Who God Is
When you feel alone, rejected, or afraid, one thing can comfort your heart.
God knit you together in such a way that it is GOOD for you—even physically and emotionally—to speak well of Him. Things change when you talk about Him, even if it’s just in the privacy of your bedroom. In fact, amazing things can happen when you’re alone with God and you simply declare who He is.
Light comes, because He is light. Peace comes, because He’s the Prince of Peace.
Your heart has needs concerning its Maker. It needs:
To declare who He is
To praise Him
To give thanks to Him
To worship Him with the deepest love
To be with Him
To rest in Him
Much of the world is in chaos right now, but we don’t have to be. We’re the children of God, and we know the One who made the world and still looks after it carefully, all these years later.
The following declarations are just some simple statements about God’s heart, nature, and character. They are worship through and through, and they’ll help you turn your attention to Him and remember what’s real.
Declarations of Who God Is
Read these declarations out loud:
Lord, You made the whole earth, and it belongs to You (Ps. 24:1–2).
You remain the King of glory (v. 10).
You are strong and powerful (v. 8).
You are a mighty Warrior who knows what to do (v. 8; Isa. 11:2).
You are fully able to keep me safe (Ps. 23:4).
Your goodness and love chase after me (v. 6).
You shield every person who takes refuge in You (Ps. 18:30).
You have me surrounded, and Your hand is upon me (Ps. 139:5).
You are not afraid of darkness (vv. 11–12).
Everything You do is wonderful (v. 14).
Your ways are perfect (Deut. 32:4).
You are faithful and You do no wrong (v. 4).
You are good and want to show me Your goodness (Ps. 34:8).
You bless those who take shelter in You (v. 8).
When I seek You, You answer me. You listen to my cries (vv. 4, 15).
You save me from my fears (v. 4).
You are my Comforter (2 Cor. 1:3).
You are my Refuge (Ps. 91).
You are my strength (Ps. 18:1).
You are my safe place (v. 2).
You are my delight (Ps. 37:4).
Whenever your heart starts to tremble, remind yourself of the truth. God is bigger than you think. He loves you more than you know—and He’s with you.
Praying for Your Nation
Some of us are just learning to pray for ourselves and our families. We haven’t even thought about praying for our nation, but now would be a great time to start.
One easy way to do this is to read this week’s declarations over your country, substituting “my” and “me” with “our” and “us.” Declare over your nation that God is the Lord and He loves them.
Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper. (Jer. 29:7)
