Is God asking you to trust Him?
Have you been hearing or sensing His tender, quiet voice whispering those words to you?
“You can trust Me.”
“I am going to take care of you.”
“I am with you.”
“I am carrying you.”
“I keep all My promises. You can trust Me to do what I said.”
Those are such precious words, especially in times of hardship or big, ongoing fears. If you are struggling today, take a deep breath and choose to trust the Lord.
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
and with my song I praise him. (Ps. 28:7 NIV)
He is strong and dependable. He is faithful and full of joyful love.
Trusting the Lord is safe.
You can trust Him with your future (Genesis 28:13–15).
You can trust Him with the deepest desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4).
You can trust Him to bring you good things, not bad things (Jeremiah 29:11).
You can trust Him to tell you what to do and where to go (Isaiah 30:19–21).
You can trust Him to give you the right words at the right time (Matthew 10:19–20).
Why can you trust Him?
You can trust Him because He is a good Father who celebrates His children, even those who have failed Him (Luke 15:22–24).
You can trust Him because He is a good Shepherd (Isaiah 40:11).
You can trust Him because He is always ready to forgive (Psalm 107:17–22).
You can trust Him because He is pure light, and there are no shadows inside Him. Humans have shadows—places where we were hurt and now react in pain, fear, or anger. But God has none of those places, and so He always responds with the deepest love (see 1 John 1:5).
What does trust look like?
When God says to your heart, “Hey, you can trust Me,” what are the steps of that trust? What does trusting Him actually look like?
Every situation is different, and discernment is always necessary. But one practical way of trusting the Lord is following what Paul wrote in Philippians 4:8:
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (NIV)
Trusting God very often looks like guarding your thoughts and turning them toward Jesus.
“God, I turn my thoughts toward You.”
“Instead of thinking about what scares me, I am going to think about what the Bible says is true.”
“God, what do You say is right in this situation?”
“Lord, I choose to focus on the excellent and praiseworthy things and not obsess over my fears.”
“Whatever is pure and looks like You, God—that is what I want to focus on.”
“God, You are lovely to me, so I’m going to think about You and what You are doing instead of what my fears say could happen.”
Child of God, you can trust Him. Let Him have all your fears. “God, I trust You. I might feel afraid right now, but I trust You.”
As you trust Him, you will see beautiful things.
