What Happens When You Speak God’s Word over Your Life
Our words, good or bad, are more powerful than we realize. A lot of us speak without thinking. We just say whatever comes to us, and we don’t even consider the long-term spiritual result of the words we’re choosing to say.
When we speak God’s words, we speak His abundant life—life beyond what the world understands.
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will achieve success. (Josh. 1:8 NASB)
What does it mean for the Word of God to be in your mouth? And to be there continually? This week, let’s practice speaking the Word of God.
Declarations of Abundant Life
Here are four things that are true about you, because you’re a child of God. Let these things “not depart from your mouth” this week. Read this list out loud. Declare these truths repeatedly. Dwell on them, and let them become a part of your thinking:
But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you.
O Israel, the one who formed you says,
“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine.” (Isa. 43:1 NLT)
When you pass through the deep, stormy sea,
you can count on me to be there with you.
When you pass through raging rivers,
You will not drown.
When you walk through persecution like fiery flames,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not harm you. (Isa. 43:2 TPT)
“Do not yield to fear, for I am always near.
Never turn your gaze from me, for I am your faithful God.
I will infuse you with my strength
and help you in every situation.
I will hold you firmly with my victorious right hand.”
All who rage against you will be ashamed and disgraced.
All who contend with you will perish and disappear. (Isa. 41:10–11 TPT)
I have swept your sins away like a cloud.
Come back to me; I am the one who saves you. (Isa. 44:22 GNT)
Think about what those passages mean. Ask the Holy Spirit to explain them to you and how they apply to you.
Where Do You Want to Go?
Here’s an amazing teaching about declaration (or confession) from Rick Sizemore, author of Jesus: The Filler of Our Needs:
Confessing God’s truth is like getting on an elevator and pushing the button for the floor we want to visit. If we don’t push a button (confess nothing), the elevator won’t move. If we push the button for the floor we’re on (confess only our present circumstances), the elevator still won’t move.
God once told me, “Rick, if you get on the elevator of life and say nothing, you will receive nothing. If you get on the elevator of life and confess the circumstances of your life at the present time, that is where you will stay.” But then He said, “If you get on the elevator of life and confess what I say about where you are going, that is where you will go!”
Confession allows us to “push the right button” so we can move with God. When He reveals a truth to us, it is important we respond by continually confessing the truth He revealed, for it is where we are going.
Where are you going with God? What has He told you? What are you confessing or declaring over your life? Be courageous as you speak His truth.
