The Holy Spirit Wants to Be a Part of YOUR Love Story
Leon and I met at a Holy Spirit conference in Ecuador. My church helped organize the conference, and they invited a leader from the United States and his team to come and minister to us.
I was just eighteen years old, and I sensed God leading me to help at the conference. This excited me because I knew the Holy Spirit was going to do miracles.
I did not realize that one “miracle” He had planned was for me to meet my future husband. Leon was part of the ministry team from the United States, and next week we celebrate thirty-two years of marriage.
My heart is filled with amazing gratitude to the Holy Spirit for loving me so much that He led me to Himself and introduced me to His gifts. It means a great deal to me that I met my honey at a Holy Spirit conference—in an incredible atmosphere of His presence, surrounded by the gifts He bestows on His children.
The Holy Spirit Wants to Be a Part of Your Love Story Too
I could tell you so many stories about the way the Holy Spirit has led Leon and me and moved in our relationship and home. I have small memories and big memories of what He has done for us as a family.
Here’s one little story that means a lot to my heart.
Several years ago, I told Leon to meet me at the shopping center, but we never actually settled on the important details, like the time he should meet me or where. He didn’t have his cell phone with him, so I couldn’t just call him and let him know where I was.
But sometime in the afternoon, I heard the Holy Spirit whisper to me, “Leon is here now. Walk to the stairs on the other side of the mall, and you’ll find him there.”
So I did—and he was there.
That’s what the Holy Spirit is like. Hearing Him this way—about Leon, about our marriage, about our kids—has happened again and again in our life together. It started back at the conference in Ecuador, when the Holy Spirit quietly moved in my heart, and I looked over at Leon, and our eyes met. I still remember that first sweet glance, and I know with all my heart that the Holy Spirit arranged it.
When you allow the Holy Spirit to guide you, you will never end up with the wrong person or be at the wrong place. He is with you and He’s helping you.
God Is Serious About His Plans for You
More than anyone else, God is interested in making sure His plans succeed with you. He will do what is necessary to make them happen, and He will pursue you greatly— with all His heart—to help you have the life and marriage you dream of.
He does most of the work, and we do some of the work. The most important piece for us is having faith. Faith allows us to see or sense that the Holy Spirit is with us and truly wants the best for us.
The process also requires an obedient heart, one that is surrendered to Him and willingly trusts Him and His faithfulness. That might sound difficult to certain people, but the reality is something amazing and beautiful happens when we choose to love the Lord with all our hearts. His Spirit fills us with joy. We realize what a delight it is to listen to Him and do what He says—in fact, it is the best part of our lives. It’s not a chore or obligation! It’s incredible, because the Holy Spirit is right there with us.
Do You Want the Holy Spirit to Be a Part of Your Marriage?
Here is what I encourage you to do:
Whether you are married or single, pray consistently for your spouse.
Trust that you hear the Holy Spirit’s voice.
Choose to believe that He will give you the desires of your heart according to His perfect will (1 John 5:14–15).
The Heart of BTO for You and Your Spouse
Leon and I are so pleased we get to go on this journey with you. Here is what we are praying today—not just for you but for all of us, our BTO family.
May we live in His Holy Spirit, learning more and more about Him, His voice, and His sweet and gentle calling. May we feel His invitation to a deeper understanding of His love and power, and may we grow in every area of our lives as we hold hands with Jesus, the perfecter of our faith.
If you are single, may you come to understand that the Holy Spirit will lead you to the person who will be your spouse, just as He led me. If He did it for me, He will do it for you as well.
If you are married, may His joy, peace, and comfort strengthen your relationship, and may you and your spouse live every day with a deep, incredible knowledge of His awesome love.
