Hold On! God Is Coming
Waiting is difficult, but when God asks us to wait for something, we can know two things:
1. There’s a reason for the wait. He has reasons for everything He does. We know this because He’s good, and everything He does is good, including the wait.
2. The wait is an invitation to be with Him. He isn’t asking us to struggle and strive and wait alone. He’s asking us to come and be with Him, delight in His heart, and get to know Him as He is. The wait will be worth it, because it comes with His heart.
Here are a few thoughts on perseverance—the decision to hold on and continue to trust the Lord, even when it seems like things aren’t happening or aren’t going well. The Lord makes every wait worth it, and His Word boldly declares that the one who perseveres will receive a reward.
Sidenote: That reward will be bigger than we expect, because the “language” of Heaven is abundance (John 10:10).
1. When You Hold On to the Promise of God…
If your faith remains strong, even while surrounded by life’s difficulties, you will continue to experience the untold blessings of God! True happiness comes as you pass the test with faith, and receive the victorious crown of life promised to every lover of God! (Jas. 1:12 TPT)
Consider these thoughts:
What has God promised you?
Why is this promise dear to you, and why is it dear to Him?
Choose faith, because you know what He’s told you.
Hold on to His promise, because He means what He speaks.
2. When You Trust God’s Timing…
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Gal. 6:9 NIV)
Consider these thoughts:
There’s a “proper” time with God. A right time. He knows what He’s doing, and His timing can be trusted.
Don’t give up this good thing God has assigned to you.
Trust the Lord and see results.
Timing. Timing. Timing.
Worship. This is not the time for despair. It is the time for worship.
3. When You Let God Have Your Anxious Thoughts…
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:6–7 NLT)
Consider these thoughts:
When you feel afraid, choose to turn your thoughts to the Lord. Redirect them to His goodness.
Pray about everything. Speak to your Father about what you need.
Be thankful. Look around you—what are you thankful for? Pick some minuscule things—things that seem ridiculously small to you—and thank God repeatedly for them.
Allow God to speak to your heart and spread His peace like butter all over your anxiety.
He Himself will guard your thoughts and emotions.
Journaling the Voice of the Lord
What has God promised you? What are you waiting for?
Don’t be afraid to trust Him with all your heart. He hasn’t forgotten what He told you. He has a time and a season specifically marked for this special thing He’s promised you. Go stand on the battlefield and worship Him.
Meditate on the following passage, and write down what God whispers to your spirit.
After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang:
“Give thanks to the Lord;
his faithful love endures forever!”
At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. (2 Chron. 20:21–22 NLT)
