Listening to God’s Voice in Quarantine (Prayers & Declarations)

In the midst of everything going on right now, let’s take a deep breath and reevaluate.

We might not be able to see our friends, socialize the way we used to, or do all the other things we like to do—but this could be an AMAZING time. We have the opportunity to realign our hearts with Jesus and practice listening to His voice. That has the power to take something hard or boring and turn it into something beautiful.

At BTO this week, we’re praying that you hear the Lord’s voice in marvelous ways! May your heart know His heart at a deeper level than ever, and may you find perfect rest with Him in this season.

What Knowing Jesus Means

Here are just a FEW reminders of who Jesus is and what a relationship with Him means for you. You may want to read the following points out loud as declarations over your life:

1.  Jesus covers me with His feathers. I find refuge under His wings, and He faithfully shields me (Ps. 91:4).

2.  Because of Jesus, I fear nothing (Ps. 91:5–6).

3.  Jesus rescues me from the traps set for me (Ps. 91:3).

4.  Jesus is my dwelling place—my home and my stronghold (Ps. 91:9).

5.  Jesus knits my soul back together and brings me peace when I feel scared, worn down, weary, or like a failure (Ps. 23:2–3).

6.  Jesus comforts me in extraordinary ways—in the exact places where it seems like nothing could comfort me (Ps. 23:4).

7.  Because of Jesus, my life overflows with goodness (Ps. 23:5).

8.  Because of Jesus, I expect the goodness and mercy of the Lord to chase me down every day of my life (Ps. 23:6).

Listening to the Lord’s Voice

This week practice sitting with Jesus and hearing His voice. Much of the world feels anxious and afraid these days because of COVID-19 and the quarantine, and in every case His presence is what the human heart needs.

Ask the Lord the following questions. After each one, pause and listen to what He says to you. His voice might come as a thought, a sense or feeling, an impression or picture in your mind, something from Scripture, etc.

As you do this exercise, remember Jesus sounds like abundant life when He speaks (John 10:10). Life and more life!

Journal what you feel He’s saying to you.

Question 1: How does the following verse apply to my life right now?

Haven’t I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don’t be timid; don’t get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take. (Josh. 1:9 MSG)

Question 2: How do You want me to pray for my city and country right now?

Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper. (Jer. 29:7 NIV)

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. (1 Tim. 2:1–2 NLT)

Question 3: How do You want me to pray for my family right now?

So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom. (Luke 12:32 NLT)

Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? Not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s permission. Every hair on your head has been counted. Don’t be afraid! You are worth more than many sparrows. (Matt. 10:29–31 NOG)
