Do You Feel Like Your Dreams Have Dried Up?

This season has been hard for a lot of people. Maybe you’re one of those singles who’s looking around and wondering, “How in the world am I going to find my spouse in all this mess?”

“Can I still meet somebody in a pandemic? Really? How?”

“What about the promises God has given me?”

“Can I still trust God even with everything that’s going on?”

Here are a few things I think the Lord is saying about this season. Good things, all of them. Whether you’re dating, single, married, or in need of a heart reboot, a fresh dose of His love—He wants to fill you with hope for the future. So much hope that you’ll laugh when you think of the coming days, because you know He’s with you and that He’s faithful.

She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future. (Prov. 31:25 NLT)

May the following thoughts ignite hope and laughter in your heart as you consider your dreams.

1. God is changing people’s hearts.

Sometimes when we talk about God “changing” our hearts, we start to worry a little bit because it can sound like He’s asking us to give up the things we think we want.

“He’s changing my heart? What? But I don’t want to do things differently!”

Child of God, you don’t ever have to worry about what-ifs with your heavenly Father. “What if God wants me to give up this dream? What if He wants me to do something different?”

The truth is, whatever His plan for your life, He’s doing a good thing with you, and you can expect good things to come to you.

During this pandemic, He’s working in your heart so you will look more like Him. He’s building your trust in Him and growing your patience as you wait with joy to see what He’s promised you.

2. God is strengthening marriages.

He’s not the God of the mediocre. He’s the God of the abundant. The more-than-you-can-possibly-imagine. The truly good and the excellent.

A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect—life in its fullness until you overflow! (John 10:10 TPT)

I think that in this season, God is leading us away from mediocre relationships and bringing us into powerful, transformational, covenantal relationships. Marriages that stand on His Word and the rock of Jesus, ready for anything that comes against them, capable of showing people what God really intended marriage to look like.

Marriage is more than just a relationship between two people and the children they may produce—it is a legacy that expands Jesus’ kingdom on the earth.

When you say, “I want to get married one day,” you’re saying that you want to be a part of Jesus’ dream. So pay attention to your desire for marriage, because He put it there.

At a time when the world is shaking, the Lord is steering us away from divorce, separation, fights over stupid things, and the distractions and darts the enemy always tries to throw at godly people. It’s time to be equipped to love and to do marriage His way.

If you’re single, ask Him to lead you in becoming the one for your future spouse. Seek healing in the areas where you need it, and get to know His amazing love for you.

3. God is reminding His people that they belong to Jesus.

The world is different today than it was thirteen months ago—but God is at work.

I think He’s taking this season and making people stronger than ever in their faith in Him. Many of us are asking questions about who He is, who we are, and what the Bible says. We’re leaving our lukewarm seats and jumping into the fire of what we were really created for. He is teaching us to be more resilient and to listen to His voice.

In this season, if God is speaking to you about marriage, don’t shrug away those words or treat them lightly. Because He has a plan! You belong to Jesus, who conquered the world and all its problems long ago. You can consider the future and laugh, because He’s your God and He’s wonderful.

You can always trust Him, even in those times when you feel like you can’t. If you’re in one of those times today, pause. Take a deep breath and speak truth to yourself: “God is always trustworthy. He never changes. I can trust Him today just as much as I could before.”

At a time when you could be afraid, you get to experience the life of your dreams instead.
