Do You Need HELP with Your Love Life?
Does something need to change in your dating life? But you don’t know what?
The prophetic is amazingly beautiful, and when it comes to dating and marriage, interacting with the Holy Spirit is the key to having a healthy relationship.
The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity. The Bible says many things about Him, and around the subject of relationships, 1 Corinthians 2:10 is wonderfully interesting: He searches the deep things of God.
But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. (NLT)
Imagine having the secrets of God available to you in your dating life, to help you when you needed help and to guide you in making all your decisions. Bill Johnson writes, “The promise of the Father, the coming of the Holy Spirit, reintroduces us to the original purpose for humanity—a people suited to carry the fullness of God on earth.” The fullness of God! The Spirit is a precious, precious gift.
Here are just a few of the benefits of being led by the Holy Spirit and hearing His voice when you’re dating.
1. The Holy Spirit Loves to Help People Know Where to Go and What to Do.
The Spirit gives directions that lead us into the perfect ways of God. Even Jesus depended on the Holy Spirit and did what He said. Many single people struggle because they don’t know what the Holy Spirit is saying to them. He might be saying, “You’re going to meet the person I have for you in six months.” But because they aren’t aware of this, they can become desperate and end up settling for someone else, thinking the perfect match isn’t out there. Poor and painful marriages don’t need to happen. When we are focused on the Holy Spirit, we will hear Him as He leads us.
2. Knowing What the Holy Spirit Is Saying Will Give You Great Confidence and Peace.
When you know you’re doing the right thing, you get to shrug off all the distracting, fearful voices that try to say you’re doing the wrong thing. That is what Leon and I experienced on our wedding day. We got to be fearless as we said our vows because we knew God was with us and we were doing what pleased Him.
3. The Holy Spirit Whispers to You and Lets You Know How Much You Are Loved.
It is not a little love! It is the biggest thing in the world. God treasures you and your heart. One benefit of knowing the Holy Spirit and His powerful love is understanding that the desires of your heart—in this context, your desires for marriage—are dear to Him and have value to Him. As you delight in the Lord, rejoicing in who He is and His love for you, He will give you those desires (Ps. 37:4).
Cultivating a Deeper Relationship with the Holy Spirit
God…has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. (2 Cor. 1:21–22 NKJV)
You are God’s precious child, and He created you in a way that pleases Him.
Because of Jesus, you carry the light of God and have the power of the Holy Spirit inside you. When you have questions, you can ask the Holy Spirit to help you and know with certainty He has the answer you need. If the Holy Spirit searches out the deep secrets of God, He definitely knows the “deep secrets” of your dating life!
There are two main ways to get to know the Holy Spirit better. First, you can meditate on the Word of God and ask the Holy Spirit to give you the revelation you need, so you can believe and treasure what God says about Him.
Second, you can invite the Holy Spirit to speak to you personally. This often happens when you’re alone with Him in prayer or when other believers speak words of encouragement to you.
If you don’t have the kind of relationship you want with the Holy Spirit, if you don’t know what He thinks about you, but you would really like to—just ask Him and He will make Himself known. (You may need to give Him some time to speak to you, because He tends to do things in His own timing.)
The Holy Spirit is all loving, all merciful, all understanding, and full of grace and compassion. He pursues you with everything He is and wants you to know and feel His love. When He speaks, He spreads life. That is His heart for you today. Don’t ever be afraid to go to Him for help in your dating life, because even the core of Him loves you and is for you.
