Reflecting on 7 Years of Becoming the One: One with God, One in Marriage

Hello friends,

This week marks the seventh anniversary of the launch of my book, Becoming the One: One with God, One in Marriage. God placed a message in my heart, and I am so grateful at how that message has touched and transformed so many lives!

As we celebrate this seven-year milestone, I want to take a moment to share the story behind the book and the journey that led to its creation.

It all began in 2011 when God clearly spoke to me during a season of personal reflection and prayer. I had been grappling with a painful reality: that divorce was ripping apart multiple lives all around me. Divorce wasn’t just a statistic, but it was a deep, heartbreaking issue among my friends, family, and members of our church.

How could this be happening in the Christian community? That should not be the case! We serve a mighty God who created marriage to be a beautiful, sacred covenant and who desires to bless our relationships, especially within the body of Christ.

My heart hurt, and I felt the need to seek God more intensely. I knew I needed a fresh revelation from Him—a clearer understanding of what He wanted to do through me and how I could be a part of His healing work in the area of marriage.

One Sunday I went up for prayer at church, hoping to hear from God.

A young woman I didn’t know prayed for me and ended up speaking words that would change the course of my life.

“I see a book already written, and God has already completed it,” she said. “This book is for me. It’s what I need.”

Her words did more than confirm what God had been stirring in my heart—they also brought me healing and hope as they reassured me God was calling me to something bigger than myself. He had something for me that would speak into the very heart of what He desires for marriage. It was as if God Himself said to me, “Yes, this is your mission. This is what I want you to do.”

From that moment on, I began to earnestly pray about what God wanted me to write. My husband joined me in prayer, and as we prayed, I received a clear message:

“Marriage is a reflection of God’s love for His people. My children have forgotten what marriage is, and I want them to remember.”

God’s clear message powerfully impacted me. He wanted me to help His people rediscover His perfect design for marriage and to remind them that marriage is more than a contract. It is a covenant: a sacred bond not only between two people but between a couple and God Himself.

I began to write, but the journey wasn’t easy. I came up against hard moments of doubt and multiple challenges and delays. It took six years for the book to be completed.

But during that time, God surrounded me with incredible people who supported and encouraged me, from friends who prayed with me to those who helped with editing and provided feedback. I could see His hand guiding each step along the way. I had no doubt this book wasn’t just my own work—it was His work, and He was using multiple people to bring it to life.

Through the process, God also made it clear that my own marriage was part of the message He wanted me to share. My husband and I had experienced the transformative power of His love in our relationship, and He wanted us to use our story as a testimony of what is possible when we invite Him into a marriage. The principles and truths He revealed to us even before we got married became the foundation of the book.

Becoming the one is not just about marriage. It’s about becoming the person God intended you to be—whole, healthy, and in a deep, personal relationship with Him. Only when we are truly one with God can we be the one for someone else. It’s about knowing who we are in Christ, so we can build a marriage that reflects His love, grace, and truth.

Now, seven years later, I can look back and see how God has used this message to bless countless people. Through the Becoming the One ministry, we’ve seen marriages restored, relationships healed, and individuals transformed. People have shared how the book, the BTO groups (or ekklesias), the BTO Conference, and the workshops have opened their eyes to God’s original design for marriage, helping them build healthy, God-centered relationships.

Becoming the one isn’t just about finding the right person; it’s about becoming the right person. It’s about being equipped—whether single or married—to walk in the fullness of God’s plan for your life. It’s about learning to trust Him, to hear His voice, and to invite Him into every aspect of your romantic relationship. Becoming the one is about receiving God’s love and loving Him back. It’s about the wonderful identity you have in Christ and the healing of your heart.

I am so grateful for the many people who have been part of this journey. To the couples, singles, volunteers, and leaders who have supported and participated in this movement, I want to say thank you! Your dedication, prayers, and willingness to be part of this mission are a blessing beyond words. Together, we are changing the way people view marriage and relationships, and we are helping raise up a generation of people who value love, commitment, and God’s perfect will.

As we enter this new season, I am filled with hope and excitement for what God is going to do next! There are so many good things ahead—more He wants to accomplish through this message, through Becoming the One, and through all of us who are walking in His love and truth.

As Leon and I celebrate this seventh year, we pray for each and every one of you:

  • For the singles, that you would fall more in love with Jesus every day.

  • For the married couples, that you would experience greater intimacy and unity with one another, centered around God’s love.

  • And for those who may be struggling or feeling discouraged, we pray you would find hope in knowing that God is in the business of restoration. He is always at work, and He desires to bless you with the marriage of your dreams.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me! Your support, your encouragement, and your commitment to building marriages God’s way means more than you’ll ever know. Together, we can change the world—one marriage at a time.
