A Culture of Unity

Greetings from Becoming the One!

Dear Becoming the One family,

This month at Becoming the One, we’re talking about a topic that’s dear to our heavenly Father’s heart: a culture of unity.

Jesus, whose glorious birth we’re just about to celebrate, talked about being one with God the Father. In fact, that is a key piece of the incredible gift He gave us—we get to be one with the Creator who made us with great love. Sin no longer has the power to separate us from God, but we stand in His presence as flawless children, made holy by the precious blood of Jesus (Col. 1:21–22).

This amazing gift of oneness began at Christmastime, when Jesus was born. We celebrate the birth of the Savior of the world, who shared His glory with us so we could be one with God and each other.

I have given these people the glory that you gave me. I gave them this glory so that they can be one, the same as you and I are one. (John 17:22 ICB)

Unity isn’t always easy, not even with your spouse—the person who loves you most and knows you best.

But choosing unity is a humble act of worship that pleases the Father. Unity and Christmas go hand in hand.

After years of marriage, I can confidently tell you that prayer is the key to having a good relationship with your spouse. Why? Because prayer means learning to listen to God’s heart for you, for your spouse, and for your marriage. Jesus said the beautiful words of John 17 while praying to the Father. That was no coincidence!

Prayer is not just one sided, where we pour out our petitions to God, but it includes listening to His voice and praying accordingly. Hearing His voice is the most important aspect of a healthy, thriving marriage. It opens the door to oneness, because we can hear Him as He tells us good things about our spouse, ourselves, and the people around us.

So, journey with us this month as we look at unity and what it means to listen to the Father! Merry Christmas!

In His love,
