In the following interview, Trinity (41) talks about the unique way she met her husband, Kerry (44). When she was about twenty years old, God told her she would get married one day. She waited another twenty years before she met the right man, but God faithfully kept His promise. He’ll keep His promise with you too!

BTO: How did you and Kerry meet?

Trinity: Blind date. His mother was my prayer partner in a Bible study group I attended in the summer of 2018. At Christmas we were both at a party, where she turned to me and asked me to meet her son. I skirted answering her because—well—moms were always asking me to meet their sons, but as I walked away, I heard God whisper, “If she asks again, you have to say yes.”

I was very much like, “What?!”

Fast forward two months. I had to give up my job to take care of my grandma full time. I couldn’t even go to church. It was Valentine’s Day, which normally I don’t care about, but it reminded me that I was stuck. I was a bit mad at God—I threw a hissy fit.

“Why? You promised me a husband, and here I am completely cut off from people. I don’t see how I will possibly meet someone now.”

Well...God has a sense of humor! Not even twenty-four hours later, I got this message from Patti saying that Kerry was coming into town, and would I please meet him? I laughed and remembered Abraham and Isaac and how God provided the lamb. He would provide for all my needs too. I definitely had to do some repenting for that hissy fit.

As I prayed over meeting Kerry, my expectation was simply to make a new friend. So we met for coffee and ended up talking for two hours—and still had more to say. From there, we built a beautiful friendship that bloomed into a beautiful love.

Also, early on when I would ask God about Kerry and for insight into Kerry’s heart and mind, I felt almost stonewalled. Having to work to know Kerry was a new thing for me. Usually when I ask God for insight into a person’s heart, He gives me a glimpse of the beauty there—but in this case, God’s word to me was to “enjoy the process.” It was more of a treasure hunt, where I had to work at being still and listening to what Kerry was saying in order to see what God had hidden there!

I also think it was God’s way of saying, “Let Kerry court you and enjoy falling in love.”

BTO: You waited a long time to meet your husband. What did God teach you about His promises during this time?

Trinity: That He is faithful. He promised me a husband when I was around twenty and would periodically remind me. I also learned to pray without ceasing and that He is my Comforter.

BTO: What is one key verse or element of God’s nature that means the world to you? How does it apply to times of waiting?

Trinity: “Be still and know” His incredible intimacy. He wants to be in the details, and nothing is too small. He wants to have conversations about it all!

BTO: You and Kerry got married toward the end of the coronavirus shutdown. How did it change your plans?

Trinity: It changed so many of our plans! We had to drastically pare down our guest list and do the ceremony live online. Because of the stay-at-home order, Kerry and I didn’t see each other for two and a half—almost three—months before the wedding.

Thankfully, I had only one time where I was so stressed out because of the lockdown. We almost couldn’t have our parents there, but God stepped in, and we had our parents and the siblings who could come.

On the flip side, I always wanted a small, intimate ceremony.
