Is It Time to Meet Your Spouse? What Can You Do About It?

Do you feel like it’s time for you to get married…but you’re VERY single?

When it comes to believing the Lord for your spouse, remember that His heart never changes. If He put within you a desire to get married, He will fulfill that desire. As you work on yourself and trust in Jesus, He will complete what He started and bring you the spouse He’s told you about.

At Becoming the One, we’ve heard so many testimonies of people who had to wait to meet their spouse, but at the right time, God did it. They met the person He had for them, and their lives changed. We are surrounded by these stories.

If you look around and feel like your dreams are taking longer than they should, don’t allow yourself to wonder if God has forgotten about you or if your desires don’t matter to Him. He has a plan, and you can trust Him with all your heart.

God knows what He’s doing.

The promises of God need the timing of God, and that’s where some of us struggle, because timing can be “different” with Him.

For the revelation awaits an appointed time;
    it speaks of the end
    and will not prove false.
Though it linger, wait for it;
    it will certainly come
    and will not delay. (Hab. 2:3 NIV)

As people—humans, with human thoughts and viewpoints—we tend to think we know what should happen and when, while He knows the end from the beginning. He has the calendar of the entire universe in His pocket, and He knows what He’s doing.

Even when you don’t see the promise, can’t feel the promise, and wonder if anything is happening with the promise, God is working in your life to bring about good things. He has not forgotten what He’s told you. That promise is still dear to Him.

Practically speaking, what can you do to set yourself up to meet the right person? Here are three simple ideas.

Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son. (Gen. 18:14)

Your heavenly Father is the God of the impossible. Anything that sounds impossible, He will make possible.

If you think you’re ready to get married, here are three things you can do to meet the person He’s prepared for you:

1. Keep praying about your future marriage. Pray and don’t give up (Luke 18:1).

2. Find creative ways to meet people. Let the Holy Spirit lead your heart. Ask the Lord to give you wisdom in this area, and He will (Jas. 1:5).

3. Ask God to reveal to you the opportunities He is and will be creating for you.

And now—expect God to help you and to do what He promised.

Don’t listen to any internal “voice” that pushes you to rely on your own strength and not God’s, to act in desperation, or to respond in hopelessness. Fear can appear in many different forms, and it always speaks lies. The “impossible” is about to happen!

Your marriage doesn’t rest on your shoulders alone—you are in this thing with God your Father, who loves you and wants to help you in everything, including meeting the right person. Your marriage is your story and His story. The two of you are in this together.

Enjoy this time of your life, hearing God’s voice and going on adventures with Him. When you get married, the adventure continues, but now there’s a third person—your spouse—along for the ride.
