What Do You Want Your Family Culture to Look Like?

Greetings from Becoming the One!

Dear Becoming the One family,

When you get married, something truly miraculous happens.

You go from being one person—to being two people who form one unit. You become an instant family with your spouse.

Your little, two-person family immediately undergoes changes…and some of them are hilarious!

You go from sleeping in the middle of the bed to sleeping only on one side, to make room for this other person. You discover their odd little habits. Are they messy in the bathroom? Do they leave dirty socks in the living room? Do they open their mail right away, or do they leave it in a pile on the counter? You discover similarities that surprise you—and you also discover they have quirks you had no idea existed!

Grocery shopping, fighting for covers, snoring, laughing, secret times, adventures, memories you will cherish forever—all these things and many more come together to form a beautiful, layered picture of your new little family.

And here, in this early stage of marriage, the two of you start to decide what you want the culture of your family to be.

As a family…

  • What is important to you spiritually?

  • Will you pray together?

  • How will you pursue Jesus together?

  • How will you treat one another when you’re upset?

  • What are you willing to sacrifice so you both can prosper?

  • What do you believe about money? How much will you save? How much will you spend?

  • How do you intend to raise your children?

  • How will you share Jesus with them?

And through it all, what Jesus said in John 10:10 remains the hope and joy and laughter of your marriage: “I came that you might have life—and have it to its fullness.”

That, beloved child of God, is His promise for YOUR marriage!

This month at Becoming the One, we’re focusing on family culture. This will be our main theme for 2026 because it’s so important. How we treat one another, what we believe about Jesus, how we pursue Him, how we raise our children—all these things are beautifully evangelistic in nature.

Family culture is more than just how our own family prospers. It is also a powerful way we show others who Jesus is. And if you are currently single, family culture is something you think about, pray about, learn from, nourish with your family of origin, and continue to develop as you get married.

We can sense the Holy Spirit’s excitement about this theme, and we are delighted to embark on this journey with you! We pray that this new year will be a year of growth and that we all become people filled with the fruits of His Spirit as we continue becoming the one—one with God and one in marriage.

Happy New Year! And may 2026 be one of the best years of your life.

In His love,
Leon and Salomé for the Becoming the One Team
