Put the Lord Ahead of Your Fears

When the Lord tells you something, He means it. You really can trust Him, even if all your emotions are saying you need to run away or react or go to war. Emotions can feel like truth—but they are not truth. The truth is whatever God is telling you.

When you are afraid, trust can feel like a “blind” decision. You don’t have all the answers, you are not in control of the situation, and sometimes there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. As humans, we do not like being in that position. But that is often where we have to make the decision to believe that God will do what He said.

Your emotions might be saying, “We need to be afraid of this!”

But your faith is saying, “No, we don’t. I am going to trust the Lord. I know He will do what He said.”

And He will.

Put the Lord Ahead of Your Fears

I sought the Lord, and He heard me,
And delivered me from all my fears. (Ps. 34:4 NKJV)

Seeking the Lord comes first—then comes deliverance from fear. Whenever we are struggling with fear, the first thing we need to do is look to the Lord.

“God, I know what You have told me. You said this is going to happen, and I believe You. I know You are good and faithful, that I matter to You, and that my heart matters to You.”

Put the Lord First in Your Thoughts

You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You. (Isa. 26:3 NKJV)

Much of the time, fear creeps in when we look away from God and start asking unhelpful questions. “What if this bad thing happens? What will I do then?”

Right there, when we’re feeling all the fear—that is when we choose to trust. When our minds are “stayed” on the Lord, we will lose our fears and have His peace instead.

“Father, You are first. I look to You first, and I set Your voice ahead of everything the fear is trying to tell me. You are that important to me. You are that valuable to me, and I trust You. I treasure who You are and everything You are saying to me.”

Whatever God is saying—that is your truth, not what the fear says. Pray about what He told you, declare it out loud, and trust Him to do what He said. He is faithful. That is His nature, and when He speaks, He means it.
