Do you feel overwhelmed?

Are you nervous about the future, or do you feel “doomed” and like your dreams will never come to pass?

Turn your attention to Him, remember what He has told you, and remember what His heart is like.

O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us.
Your plans for us are too numerous to list.
    You have no equal.
If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds,
I would never come to the end of them. (Ps. 40:5 NLT)

He’s here, and He’s ready for you. He thinks of you with pleasure, and when your eyes are on Him, your heart will remember what calm feels like.

Filling Your Heart with God’s Calmness

Here are a few calming reminders of who your Father is:

  • God your Father is fully capable of saving you (Ps. 62:7).

  • He is your rock. He will never shift or wobble beneath your feet. You will never find yourself in a position where He is unreliable (Ps. 62:7).

  • He is your refuge. Your safe place. Your shelter (Ps. 62:7).

  • He holds your honor. The enemy cannot steal your reputation from Him (Ps. 62:7).

  • God your Father is working on your behalf (Ps. 66:5).

  • The Lord will do impossible things for you (Ps. 66:6).

  • The Lord loves you. Always. Without fail. He desires you anyway, even after you’ve sinned or when you’re struggling to trust Him (2 Tim. 2:13; John 3:16).

  • God your Father is the resting place for your heart (Ps. 62:1 NIV).

  • In times of attack, He is your fortress. He’s fully capable of keeping you safe and protecting you from the enemy (Ps. 62:2).

  • God is your hope all the time, in all situations (Ps. 62:5).

  • His love for you does not fail. It holds steady and endures all things. You can always trust the faithfulness of His love and believe it’s right there with you (Ps. 136:26).

Journaling God’s Heart for You

Choose one of the previous bullet points and journal about it. Look up the verse and write it down as well. Ask God to speak to you through the verse, and expect Him to do so. Choose to believe He loves you and that His presence is working to calm your heart and wipes away your fears.

Activation for This Week

The Bible talks about considering the Lord’s love in the morning. There is something special about His heart and your heart when you’re starting a new day.

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
for to you I entrust my life. (Ps. 143:8 NIV)

It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning,
your faithfulness in the evening. (Ps. 92:2 NLT)

For the next seven days, every morning when you wake up, remind yourself of God’s love. If you have trouble remembering to do this, set a reminder on your phone or stick a note where you’ll see it first thing in the morning.

Speak His love for you out loud: “You love me. You really, really do. I walk, think, speak, and act in Your love today. I am wrapped with Your love. I am fully accepted, and You treasure me.”

If this exercise feels awkward at first, keep going. It will feel less awkward over time, and you’ll find good, God-filled words that resonate deeply within your heart.

Your heavenly Father loves you more than you realize. Check out these other devotions:
