Praying in Jesus’ Name

Sometimes we get so familiar with Jesus that we start to forget how the Bible describes Him. We become sort of casual about His name and His power.

It’s pretty easy to say, “In Jesus’ name,” but what does that actually mean?

What are we tapping into when we pray that way?

Jesus is the power through which God the Father created everything in existence.

For through him God created everything
in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see
and the things we can’t see—
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.
Everything was created through him and for him. (Col. 1:16 NLT)

The source of every star and planet, the source of every seed and flower that has ever existed, the One who made every human who has ever stood on this planet, the invisible strength that holds the ocean floor together and simultaneously fills space, the power that keeps individual atoms in alignment—that is what lives inside you.

With entire worlds in mind, the Bible casually says, “Christ’s mighty power that works within you” (Col. 1:29).

What a colossal understatement!

We can read that verse and completely miss its depth. His power created literally everything, and yet right now as you read this, all that power is working inside you.

Praying, “In Jesus’ name,” is such an easy way to pray…and yet it indirectly involves the farthest star and the smallest speck at the bottom of the deepest ocean trench, because Jesus made those things and actively holds them together.

He existed before anything else,
and he holds all creation together. (Col. 1:17 NLT)

When you pray, “In Jesus’ name,” you are reaching for the One through which every person and every thing was made. The name of Jesus is bigger than any other name in existence (Phil. 2:9).

What does the name of Jesus mean for your fears?

What a lie fear is. What an evil deception from the enemy, to make us think we are barely surviving on this planet.

The enemy tries so hard to get us to “think small” about who we are as the children of God and to believe our prayers mean nothing and do nothing. But that is not true.

Beloved child of God, Jesus is with you, and His epic, mighty power is working within you. He is good, and He loves you with all His heart. Don’t be afraid to shake off fear and pray with boldness. Ask for “difficult” things in His name—because His name is powerful.

How would you like us to pray for you in Jesus’ name?
