The Rock of God’s Love

This season has been emotionally difficult for many people. If you are struggling, first of all, know that you are not alone! It isn’t just you.
Second, in times of difficulty and intense stress, we need extra reminders of God’s great love. The enemy tries to get us to forget how much God loves us, but when we choose to remember, not only are we happier and more joyful, but our remembrance is an act of worship. We are worshipping the Lord in a special way as we purposefully remember His love.
And so, here are a few beautiful reminders of how much He loves YOU, personally.
Your emotions might go up and down, but God’s love does not.
One important thing to remember is that God’s love isn’t based on your feelings.
The following statements about His love are true when they FEEL true, and they are true when they do NOT feel true. The Bible refers to God as the Rock, and His love is one of many “rocklike” things about Him.
His love for you doesn’t change when you make a mistake.
His love for you is firm and solid.
His love for you knows how to endure. It will keep going even when everything around you is falling apart.
His love for you is patient. It is not frustrated with you or wishing you would hurry up and mature.
His love for you never fails.
No matter what you are struggling with today, you can pause, breathe out the stress, and let the reminders of His love speak to the place where you are struggling.
The Lord loves you with everything He is.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. (Deut. 6:5 NASB)
Some people read Deuteronomy 6:5 as if it were a command.
“This is what I have to do in order to be a good Christian.”
“This is what God requires of me.”
“If I don’t obey this command, I will be punished.”
But Deuteronomy 6:5 is far lovelier than all those thoughts. It is a description of the heart of God and how He loves people. He is not asking for something He is not offering.
That is how the Creator of the universe loves you: with all His heart and all His soul and all His strength.
You have been firmly and thoroughly planted in God’s heart.
If Deuteronomy 6:5 describes how God loves you, what does this mean for the specific thing you are struggling with today? What does it mean for the scared places inside you?
If He loves you with all His heart, all His soul, and all His strength, do you think He could ever overlook you or ignore your prayers? You are embedded in His heart and in His thoughts.
The Eternal Rock is with you.
Your life is starting to look more and more rocklike because He is with you and His love is changing you.
Here is one way you can pray Deuteronomy 6:5 over your life:
Wonderful heavenly Father, I am amazed at how You love me. Your love sees me as more than good enough because of Jesus. I don’t ever have to be afraid of falling short or failing. Of course You will help me do the things I need to do. Of course You have a good plan for my future. You love me with all Your heart, all Your soul, and all Your strength—and no one is stronger than You! Father, please teach me how to agree with Your great love for me. I don’t want to argue with it or believe lies about it or about myself. Help me to understand it deep in my heart, so everything about me begins to shine Your light. In the precious name of Jesus, amen.
