3 Simple Ways to Connect with the Lord, Especially If You’re Tired

Here are three simple ways you can connect with the Lord and recharge your heart this week. God loves childlike things. Much of the time, simple is just the way to go with Him.

Pay attention to how these three activities affect your heart.

1. Every day look to see His love.

Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning;

For I trust in You;

Teach me the way in which I should walk;

For to You I lift up my soul. (Psalm 143:8 NASB1995)

Purposefully set your heart to focus on God’s love every morning this week. If you need to, put a reminder on your phone, or stick a note somewhere near your bed so you’ll remember.

Let His love be one of the first things you think about. Remind yourself that it’s true and real even if you can’t feel it right away. Declare it out loud. “You love me. You deeply, dearly love me, and Your love for me doesn’t change. It will be with me all day long.”

2. Every day pray expectantly.

In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice;

In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch. (Psalm 5:3 NASB1995)

When you ask the Lord to do something for you, do you then eagerly watch for Him to move on your behalf? Do you know with all your heart that He’s going to answer?

Let hope arise in your heart every day this week, and purposefully think about your prayers (even the small ones) according to Psalm 5:3. You are not praying empty words—you are praying things that move Him, and you get to watch eagerly for His answer.

3. Every day spend time rejoicing in Him.

My spirit rejoices in God my Savior. (Luke 1:47 NIV)

With the things of God, emotions often come later. We don’t necessarily start with rejoicing we can feel. Sometimes, yes, but a lot of the time, we decide to rejoice and then the emotional part comes.

Meditate on Luke 1:47 every day this week, knowing this verse is absolutely true for you. You belong to Jesus and your spirit rejoices in Him. It rejoices at a level that is beyond human thought and reasoning.

Declare Luke 1:47 as truth, and let the Lord handle the emotional part. Your heart knows the Subject of its rejoicing, so the emotions will eventually come.

When the Lord speaks to you this week…

When the Lord speaks to you this week, write down His words and treasure them (Luke 2:19). This is an act of worship, and acts of worship are always special—not just to His heart but also to yours. When you write down His voice, you are giving both of you a gift.
