Your Heart NEEDS God’s Promises

The human heart was made for God. When we treasure the promises He made us and believe He will do what He said, our hope increases. We are set free from lies we have believed, and our heart becomes healthier.

The promises of the Lord are like a healing ointment. When we choose to believe Him, that ointment is applied to our heart, and healing comes.

Where is your heart hurting? Find a promise of God, and apply it like ointment to the aching place.

He is faithful. He is faithful. He is faithful.

Here are just a few things the Bible says about God and how He keeps His promises:

Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled. (Josh. 21:45 NIV)

Blessed be the Lord who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. Not one word has failed of all his good promise. (1 Kings 8:56 ESV)

You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said. (Luke 1:45 NLT)

Yahweh! The Lord!
The God of compassion and mercy!
I am slow to anger
and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. (Ex. 34:6 NLT)

What has the Lord told you? Hang on to it because He is going to do what He said.

Meditate on His promises. Allow your heart to believe Him and be healed.

Think of one thing the Lord has told you. It could be something the Holy Spirit whispered to your heart in private: a promise about your future, how He will always be with you, or how He has good things in store for you. Maybe He told you about your future children or something that will happen in your marriage one day.

Or the promise could be something from Scripture. The Bible is filled with His promises to humanity. Here are just a few of them:

  • He promises that when we repent, He will forgive us. We might struggle with fear or shame because of our past, but He is a merciful and compassionate Father who can make everything new again.

  • He promises to take care of us because He is our good Shepherd.

  • He promises we can hear His voice. He is the Shepherd, and we are the sheep of His pasture.

Rejoice in the promise of God! Wait expectantly for Him to fulfill it.

I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.” (Lam. 3:24 NIV)

Grab your journal, and write down one of the promises God has given you. Then spend a few minutes meditating on the promise and God’s wonderful, tender nature. Let your heart feel what He is like, and come to a place where you fully believe His promise will happen, because He who made it is faithful.

Your heart needs God and the beautiful promises He has made you. Healing will come as you remember His promises and believe He will do what He said.
