3 Names for God When You’re Single
Do you feel unseen?
Are you searching for the person who is right for you, but it feels like they’re out of reach?
Do you regret some of the dating decisions you made in the past?
Wherever you are in the dating process, Proverbs 18:10 holds a secret:
The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
The righteous runs into it and is safe. (NASB)
Dating can be messy. It can be overwhelming and scary as it pushes you outside your comfort zone. Opening your heart to somebody else is no joke.
But the name of the Lord is a safe place for you, and whenever you feel threatened—by anything—you can cling to His name and find your peace again.
Here are three names of the Lord that are precious when we’re single.
Name 1: He is the God who sees you.
Thereafter, Hagar used another name to refer to the Lord, who had spoken to her. She said, “You are the God who sees me.” She also said, “Have I truly seen the One who sees me?” (Gen. 16:13 NLT)
So many people feel alone:
“How come I’m still single?”
“Why are all my friends getting married, but I don’t even have a date?”
“What’s wrong with me?”
Or maybe they’re getting a lot of attention from people they don’t want to notice them.
But Jesus is the God who sees you. That name for Him can be your confidence as you date. He knows what you need and what you want—and what you don’t want. He sees you in every respect.
Name 2: He is the Wonderful Counselor.
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isa. 9:6 NIV)
Where should you go? What should you do? Do you need to go to college or on a missions trip? Do you need to take a certain job or move to another city?
The wonderful Counselor is with you, and He can tell you what to do and where to go, so you can meet the person He has for you.
Name 3: He is the Redeemer.
I know that my redeemer lives,
and that in the end he will stand on the earth. (Job 19:25 NIV)
Do you have regrets—things you wish hadn’t happened in your dating life?
One of the incredible things about God is that He can take anything and cause good to come out of it. He redeems. That is what He does (Rom. 8:28).
May you begin to think about your past in a different light: in the light of His redemption.
Be blessed this week, beloved child of God!
