Speaking the Life of God into Your Dating Relationship

The Lord loves to pour out abundant life on His kids. When He speaks, His words spread the abundant life of who He is. They act like a stream of water flowing through a desert—things begin to flourish and grow and prosper because He has spoken.

When He moves on our behalf, He moves with abundant life. His actions throw open the door to life and more life, and we get to live according to the law of His life (Rom. 8:2).

As we date and get to know interesting people, we need to be careful to speak according to the Lord’s abundance. The darkness wants to control our words, but Jesus is life for our hearts—better life and more life than we ever thought possible.

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]. (John 10:10 AMP)

Practice Speaking His Word

This week, practice speaking the life of God into your relationship. Even if you’re single right now, you can still do this. God knows what to do with these blessings, and He can direct them where they need to go.

Here are five ways you can declare His life into your relationship.

1. The Peace of God

When you have questions about your love life—or your singleness—remember Isaiah 26:3 and declare the abundant life of God. “Lord, I welcome all the peace of Jesus to come be with me. I trust You with my relationship and my future marriage. My mind is stayed on You. You are my safe place and the Rock under my feet.”

You keep him in perfect peace
    whose mind is stayed on you,
    because he trusts in you. (Isa. 26:3 ESV)

2. The Wisdom of God

When you are worried about something in your dating life, remember James 1:5. The wisdom of God—divine and holy wisdom, the same wisdom that shaped the mountains and hung the planets—is available to help you with your dating life. “Father, I need Your wisdom in this area. What should I do in this situation? How should I handle this? What are You saying to me?”

 If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him. (Jas. 1:5 AMP)

3. The Calm of God

The next time you feel overwhelmed, set your hand on your chest and repeat the first line of Psalm 104: “Let all that I am praise the Lord.” Think about what that really means—everything inside you, giving honor to the One who made it. Praising the Lord in times of distress, confusion, anxiety, and overwhelm is a powerful act that can quiet the darkness that is trying to steal your joy and peace.

Let all that I am praise the Lord. O Lord my God, how great you are! You are robed with honor and majesty. (Ps. 104:1 NLT)

4. The Comfort of God

When you are lonely, go to a quiet place by yourself and declare the abundant life of God according to Isaiah 41:10: “There is no need for me to be afraid or discouraged in my dating life, because I am not alone. I have the Most Important One with me, and He is constantly strengthening me. He is helping me, and He is holding my hand.”

So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isa. 41:10 NIV)

5. The Timing of God

When you are longing for something to change in your dating life, but it seems like nothing is changing, remember what the Lord is like and how everything He does produces extraordinary life—including the waiting times. When the time is right, everything He has promised you will come to pass. “Father God, You are my choice, and I want Your abundant life. I know I can trust You to do good things with my heart.”

In repentance and rest you will be saved,
In quietness and trust is your strength. (Isa. 30:15 NASB)

During This Next Week…
