What Do You Believe About Your Dating Life?

What are YOU going to believe today about your dating life?

Every single day—no pun intended—we need to take responsibility for our beliefs.

Will we believe only what we can see from a human perspective? “I’m single. I’m alone. No one wants to be in a relationship with me. I must be a disaster and just don’t realize it. I’m afraid of being single forever.”

Or will we believe what God is saying, even if it defies our circumstances? “God is with me—I am not alone. I am His treasure, and He thinks I’m amazing. There is so much hope for my future! Anything is possible. He is leading me, and I know I am going to see impossible things come about.”

Following the Lord takes faith, which is the ability to believe in something we can’t see.

This week, where do you need to take a deep breath, let go of the tension, and choose to trust the Lord and what He is saying?

Where do you need to let go of the world’s voice and pick up the promises God has made you in Scripture?

Where do you need to say “no” to fear and “yes” to intimacy with God?

Don’t be afraid to put all your trust in the Lord, especially in the area of marriage. He knows what your heart longs for. He knows your questions about your life, dating, what to do next, how long you should wait—He knows all these things.

Here are three simple ways you can put your faith in the Lord this week.

Choose Him with courage. Don’t allow the enemy to steal your attention with made-up reasons for how you can’t trust your heavenly Father.

You can always trust the Lord, even when you can’t see what He is doing.

1. Choose the path of faith, and put your trust in God’s love.

Read this Scripture with your dating life in mind:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
    his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness. (Lam. 3:22–23 ESV)

This week: Choose to believe the Lord’s great love for you. When you wake up in the morning, reach for His love. Do whatever works for you to “connect” your heart to His love. Maybe this means reading a Scripture verse, and having faith that it is true, even if you can’t feel it. Maybe this looks like talking about His love out loud:

  • “You love me. I am surrounded by Your love.”

  • “All Your love is for me.”

  • “I know You have good things in mind for me, because You are the Giver of good gifts.”

  • “I can trust You and Your love where my dating life is concerned.”

2. Choose the path of faith, and view God as the caring, tender Father who is deeply interested in your love life.

Read this Scripture with your dating life in mind:

But we know there is only one God. He is the Father. All things are from Him. He made us for Himself. There is one Lord. He is Jesus Christ. He made all things. He keeps us alive. (1 Cor. 8:6 NLV)

This week: Choose to believe God is your Father and—therefore—He will act like a Father in your life. He will defend you. He will take care of you and provide for you. He will protect you against the darkness. He will support you and help you make decisions about where to live, where to work, how to think, who to date—all the things.

Every day this week, declare the truth of His Fatherhood over yourself:

  • “God is my Father and He loves me dearly.”

  • “As my Father, He is looking out for me and taking care for me.”

  • “My Father knows what to do.”

  • “I can trust God to Father me and treat my desire for marriage with tenderness and joy.”

3. Choose the path of faith, and believe with all your heart that God cherishes you and has your best interest in mind.

Read these Scriptures with your dating life in mind:

As a father is kind to his children, so the Lord is kind to those who honor him. (Ps 103:13 GNT)

Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energizes you. (Eph. 3:20 TPT)

This week: If you feel afraid of your future, choose to believe the Lord has good things stored up for you. He is your Father, and He loves you more than you think possible. He is kindness, and He acts in kindness.

Every time you are afraid of bad things happening, come back to these declarations, and choose to believe them:

  • “God the Father is epically kind to me. I can see His kindness all around me.”

  • “God is doing even more than I am asking for.”

  • “His beautiful, mighty power is with me.”

  • “I am going to see the Lord do amazing things.”

  • “I will be astounded.”

Take courage, dear heart.
