Blessing Your Dating Life

How are you talking about your dating life? Are you blessing it—or unintentionally tearing it apart?

The words we speak direct our life. They are like a steering wheel that points our “car” a certain direction—and we get to decide what direction that will be.

Will we speak good words filled with the life of God? Or will we speak negative, pain-filled words that strengthen our fear, despair, and discouragement?

Your words are so powerful
that they will kill or give life,
and the talkative person will reap the consequences. (Prov. 18:21 TPT)

So many Christians aren’t careful with their words, and as a result, they end up driving down roads that are more painful than they need to be:

  • “I’m going to be single forever.”

  • “No one wants to be with me.”

  • “I’m not worth anybody’s time.”

  • “I will never have this desire of my heart.”

Our words can keep us trapped in painful places. Or they can direct our “car” down glorious roads filled with God’s life.

All the fullness of His heart is available to us—that is how we get to speak.

All His kingdom power is available to us—that is also how we get to speak.

In this special area of dating and marriage, let’s make sure we say what He is saying, so His words carry us forward.

Here are a few Scripture-based truths about your dating life.

If you’re married, then these are truths about your marriage. Don’t be afraid to speak God’s Word with boldness!

  • The Lord is with me (Josh. 1:9).

  • My relationship is marked by His peace (Phil. 4:6–7).

  • My relationship is marked by His strength (Ps. 46:1).

  • The Spirit of Wisdom is with me. I am wise in my relationship (Isa. 11:2).

  • I have no fear of the future (Prov. 31:25).

  • God has a good plan for my life (Jer. 29:11; Eph. 3:20).

  • My heavenly Father is paying attention to the desires of my heart (Ps. 37:4).

At Becoming the One this month, we’re talking about family culture: how we do life with our family. One important aspect of culture is our word choices. Will we talk about the darkness and our fears? Or will we focus on God’s light and all the beautiful things He is doing?

May His words always direct our life!
