Blessing Your (Future) Family

How do you want the Lord to bless your family?
If you could have any blessing, what would you ask Him for?
At Becoming the One this month, we’re talking about family culture: how you do life with your family.
Even if you’re single right now, you can listen to the Holy Spirit and start to plan what you want the culture of your future family to look like. Then you can bless your family and speak that culture into existence.
Here is a brief list of Scripture-based blessings you can pray over your future family.
Which of these blessings speaks to you the most? What would you add to this list?
As for me and my family, we choose the Lord (Josh. 24:15).
Jesus is the Lord of my home (1 Cor. 12:3).
Every member of my household eagerly desires Jesus. Desire for the Lord fills each generation of my family—from my generation to my children’s children’s generation and beyond (Ps. 42:1–2; 1 Chron. 16:15).
The name of Jesus is powerful in my family (Phil. 2:10).
As a family, our imaginations are led by the Holy Spirit. They are not led by lust, fear, or the love of money (Matt. 22:37; 2 Tim. 1:7; Deut. 8:18).
We are blessed everywhere we go (Deut. 28:6).
Every benefit of the blood of Jesus is for us (1 Cor. 11:25).
My family displays all the blessings God has for families (Ps. 128).
God is my family’s refuge (Ps. 91:2).
He protects us diligently (Ps. 91:14).
No evil will befall us. No disaster will come near our home (Ps. 91:9–10).
God’s power flows through my family. He uses us to reveal His goodness everywhere (Gen. 12:2–3).
We carry the light of Jesus everywhere we go (Phil. 2:15).
What blessings do you want to pray into your family?
Don’t be afraid to pray for your future family like they already exist. You are not speaking empty words, but your heavenly Father is storing up all these blessings, and He will pour them out at the right time.
