God’s Love Is Bigger Than You Think!

Alex Engelman

Your heavenly Father loves you more than you think. No matter how long you’ve been a Christian or how spiritually mature you are, His love for you will always be bigger than you think.

This month at Becoming the One, we’re talking about a culture of love. What a wonderful month this is going to be! There is nothing sweeter or more healing than talking about the amazing love of God.

God’s love for you is constant…even when you believe you can’t have it.

The Bible is full of stories of people who completely failed in the worst possible ways, and yet, when they repented, He welcomed them back with open arms. They experienced His love in a new way and discovered for themselves it really is bigger than they thought.

The Woman Caught in Adultery

According to the law, this woman deserved to die, and yet Jesus refused to condemn her (John 8:10–11). That is what He is like with you too—there is no condemnation in His heart toward you (Rom. 8:1).

King David

In today’s world, King David would have been in prison for murder. He took another man’s wife, got her pregnant, and then killed her husband to keep him quiet. And yet…God did not reject this man. He did not say, “You’re out. This is too evil for Me to forgive.” Instead, He quickly forgave David when the man repented.

David understood the truth about God’s love:

Have mercy on me, O God,
    because of your unfailing love.
Because of your great compassion,
blot out the stain of my sins. (Ps. 51:1 NLT)

That is what God is like with you too. His love is unfailing. Even at your absolute worst, He still loves you. He is waiting with open arms for you to return to Him.

The Apostle Paul

This guy hated the idea of Jesus and did everything he could to destroy Jesus’ followers. But God loved him and chose to use him to change the world. Paul had an extreme encounter with Jesus’ love and eventually became the most prolific New Testament writer. Much of the Church today is based on what Paul wrote about God.

That is what God is like with you too. Even at your lowest, when you can offer Him nothing good, He looks at you, and His heart moves toward you (Rom. 5:8).

This month, remember…

  • Nothing can separate you from God’s love (Rom. 8:38–39).

  • No one who comes to the Lord will ever be turned away (John 6:37).

  • Everyone who calls on Him will be saved (Rom. 10:13).

  • Even the most rebellious, sin-filled people are forgiven when they repent (Ps. 107).

  • When He thinks of you, His heart stirs within Him, and all His compassion is kindled (Hos. 11:8)

Your heavenly Father LOVES YOU—even when you mess up, fall short, do exactly what you vowed you wouldn’t do, bottom out, lose hope, sin in the worst possible way, etc. Don’t be afraid to come to Him and open your heart to His love, because all of it is for you.
