Start Your Day with God’s Love

Vitaly Gariev

Many of us feel helpless when it comes to good days and bad days.

“I’ve just had the worst day.”

“Everything is going wrong this morning!”

“Ugh. What a disaster. I wish I could start today over.”

But we are not helpless! We are the children of God, bought by the precious blood of Jesus. We don’t have to put up with the bad days or just let them happen.

What we focus on dramatically impacts the rest of the day—and we get to decide what we focus on. We need to get in the habit of taking our thoughts captive every morning. Instead of allowing negativity to push us, we tell our thoughts to obey God’s truth and His love for us (2 Cor. 10:5).

The Bible repeatedly encourages us to focus on God’s love in the morning:

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
for I have put my trust in you. (Ps. 143:8 NIV)

But I will sing of your strength,

in the morning I will sing of your love. (Ps. 59:16 NIV)

Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. (Ps. 90:14 ESV)

The Lord’s love never ends.
    His mercies never stop.
They are new
every morning. (Lam. 3:22–23 ICB)

This month at Becoming the One, we’re talking about a culture of love and rejoicing in the beautiful, ceaseless love of our Father in Heaven.

  • When God’s love is the focal point of our hearts, we are happy.

  • We get to wake up with joy and delight, knowing we are His joy and delight.

  • We get to start the day off knowing we are loved.

  • We are led by His love, not by negative emotions, failure, strife, conflict, worries, anxiety, etc.

This Week’s Activity

Do you want a good day—or at least a better day? Start your day off by purposefully thinking about how much your heavenly Father loves you. Train your thoughts to focus on His love throughout the day.

Even if your soul feels “hard” or anxious or distracted, be purposeful about opening your heart to Him. Choose to believe His love surrounds you all the time without fail, even when you can’t easily sense it.

For the word of the Lord holds true,
and we can trust everything he does.
He loves whatever is just and good;
the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth. (Ps. 33:5 NLT)

If something is worrying you, don’t allow that thing to rule over your thoughts and emotions. Instead, practice thinking about your Father and His love for you. Especially in the morning, practice setting your heart on His love.
