Honoring God by Believing His Love

Baylee Gramling

Is it hard for you to believe God really, deeply loves you?

This month at Becoming the One, we’re talking about a culture of honor. One way we honor God is by believing His love for us. Instead of coming up with reasons it doesn’t or can’t apply to us, we just say “yes” and metaphorically climb up on our Father’s lap.

Even when we can’t feel His love or think we have reasons He doesn’t love us, the truth is His love is our home.

We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. (1 John 4:16 NASB)

As the bridegroom rejoices over the bride,
So shall your God rejoice over you. (Isa. 62:5 NKJV)

Sadly, many of us reject God’s love without realizing what we are doing. This happens because deep in our hearts, we believe painful things about Him or about ourselves:

“I sinned. I messed up. I can’t be close to Him right now.”

“He doesn’t want me to be close to Him.”

“I’m not good enough.”

“He loves others, but He doesn’t love me.”

We feel we have “reasons” for why we can’t approach our Father and let Him love us.

But as the children of God, this is the truth:

  • His love for us is steady and faithful (Lam. 3:22).

  • He loves us even when we are trapped in sin (Rom. 5:8).

  • He loves us even when we don’t deserve it (Eph. 2:4–5).

  • He never stops loving us (Ps. 136:1).

  • He longs for us (Hos. 11:8).

  • He drops everything to come and find us when we’re lost (Luke 15:4).

  • His heart is tender toward us (Ps. 145:9).

  • All His compassion is for us (Hos. 11:8).

  • He rejoices because of us (Zeph. 3:17).

  • He delights in us (Ps. 147:11).

The love of God is our identity. He is our Father, we are His dearly loved children, and His arms are always open to us. He wants us to experience His love personally.

If you haven’t felt His love in a while, or perhaps ever in your life, take some time this week just to be quiet with Him. Go to a quiet place by yourself, and consider these two ideas:

1. That His love for you is more real than the air you’re breathing and

2. That He loves you dearly even when you can’t feel it.

Honor the Lord by believing His love for you!
