How Thankfulness Leads to Smarter Dating

Here’s a very practical reason to be thankful when you’re single.  

Being thankful fills the heart with God’s light, chasing away shadows, confusion, and the dark ideas that can warp a person’s intelligence. It resets the mind so the person’s thinking becomes more righteous and actually worth something.

If Romans 1:21 is what happens when someone doesn’t acknowledge God and isn’t thankful, think about what happens when someone does acknowledge Him and is thankful!

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. (Rom. 1:21 NIV)

When we are thankful and choose to acknowledge God in our dating life, our thinking improves.  

It becomes valuable and actually helpful. Our heart lets go of dumb ideas and becomes full of good ideas because it’s filled with holy light.  

Instead of automatically making painful choices and dating the wrong people, we step into a much healthier, better place to make right choices, because our thinking is good. It becomes easier to hear the Holy Spirit and let Him lead us.

Even simple, one-sentence prayers of thanksgiving are beautiful worship that cuts through darkness and helps us see more clearly.

Instead of saying things like, “I will never recover from this breakup,” or “I will always date the wrong person,” we start saying things like:

“Thank You, God, for helping me see that person wasn’t right for me!”

“Thank You for bringing the right person at the right time.”

If you want to get married one day, choose to be thankful while you’re still single. This will help you think more clearly as God brings about His wonderful and perfect will in your life. You’ll have more hope and greater confidence.
