Do You Need to Ignore the Enemy’s Voice?

An important act of spiritual warfare is ignoring what the enemy is saying. Fear is one of the enemy’s favorite schemes, and it is a trap. Each time fear speaks, the words might be unique, but at their root, they typically sound like this:

O Lord, I have so many enemies;
    so many are against me.
So many are saying,
    “God will never rescue him!” (Ps. 3:1–2 NLT)

Fear tries to tell us that God won’t help us, that we’re on our own, that He isn’t going to save us, etc. But fear tells lies. It is deceptive in nature.

When we sense the enemy trying to talk to us, we can take a deep breath and focus on the truth, which is found in the very next verse:

But you, O Lord, are a shield around me;
    you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. (Ps. 3:3)

The enemy is saying, “God will not rescue you.”

But God is saying, “I am your shield.”

God Answers

Psalm 3 describes what is really going on in our life. It doesn’t matter what the enemy is saying. We might feel like all is lost, but God answers when we cry out to Him.

I cried out to the Lord,
    and he answered me from his holy mountain. (Ps. 3:3)

When we pray, He responds.

God’s Peace

As the truth about God’s help and protection settles into our heart and mind, verse 5 happens:

I lay down and slept,
    yet I woke up in safety,
    for the Lord was watching over me.

We get to rest in perfect peace, knowing everything will be okay because God is watching over us. It doesn’t matter what fear it is, or how big it is, or how much of a threat it seems to be. There are times when the enemy might look like an army riding out against us, but we don’t have to be afraid.

I am not afraid of ten thousand enemies
    who surround me on every side. (Ps. 3:6)

Even when the enemy has really scared us, verse 5 is still true. We get to rest in safety, because God is watching over us.

This Week, Remember…

The enemy will lie to get our attention, and it is important we ignore what he is saying. We get to look to the Lord instead and know with all our heart:

  • “God is with me.”

  • “He will help me.”

  • “He is my shield.”

  • “I get to rest in Him.”

  • “There is no reason for me to fear.”

This week, may you experience the beautiful, sweet peace of the Lord at all times!
