Your Prayers Matter More Than You Think

All of us need to remember from time to time that God means what He says.

We live in a world that is full of distractions, and it is really easy to start making assumptions about God that just aren’t true.

“He isn’t going to answer when I ask Him for help.”

“He helps other people, but He doesn’t help me.”

“It doesn’t matter if I pray about this. He is busy with more important people.”  

But God means what He says, and one thing He says is that our prayers are precious to Him. They aren’t empty words—they aren’t just noises spoken into the air. John Wesley said, “God does nothing except in response to believing prayer.” Talking with the Lord is life for us, and it is life for the people around us. When we pray, God treasures those words, and He responds to them.

If you are praying for something or someone today, take heart. Those prayers matter to your heavenly Father. Your words are going somewhere. You are accomplishing something good, even if you feel like nothing is happening. Don’t give up.

Here are just a few things God says about you and the prayers you are praying: 

Your prayers have great power. 

The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. (Jas. 5:16 NLT)

The Lord Himself—the Creator of all things, the most powerful Being in or out of the universe—is listening to you. 

Go away, all you who do evil,
    for the Lord has heard my weeping.
The Lord has heard my plea;
    the Lord will answer my prayer. (Ps. 6:8–9 NLT)

The Lord is very interested in carrying all the burdens, concerns, and fears that weigh down your heart.

Give your burdens to the Lord. He will carry them. He will not permit the godly to slip or fall. (Ps. 55:22 TLB)

Many believers in Jesus need their hearts to wake up where prayer is concerned. They have adopted ideas and fears about God and whether or not He hears the cries of their hearts.

But God means what He says.
