Is Your Desire Weighing You Down?

Sometimes the desire of our heart can be heavy. We want to see this special thing happen so badly that it starts to consume our thoughts.

“Is now the right time?”

“Is this a sign from God that my dream is finally coming to pass?”

“Is He finally doing what He promised?”

We can get so focused on our desire that it transforms from a joy to a burden. Waiting for it just exhausts us. “When will this thing happen? When will I get married? When will I finally be promoted? When will I be able to start my ministry? Why is this taking so long??”

When something becomes heavy in our life, the Lord wants to carry that thing for us. Not every “burden” is a bad thing. The desire can be a very good thing—but we can’t carry it by ourselves anymore. Trying to do so will drive us crazy!

How are you doing with the desire of your heart?

Do you have a desire you need to give to the Lord: something extremely good—a dream of your heart—but it has become a burden?

Never be afraid to set your desire, whatever it is, in the Lord’s hands. He is a good and faithful Father, and at the right time, you will see exactly what He promised you.

Here are four verses to ponder this week. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you through these verses:

The Lord will deliver you from all the fear and anxiety concerning your dream:

I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears. (Ps. 34:4 NIV)

The Lord will fulfill all His promises to you. Every single one of them. You get to wait with hope in your heart, knowing you will miss out on nothing—because of God’s faithfulness.

Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true. (Josh. 21:45 NLT)

The Lord knows what you are feeling concerning this (currently) unfulfilled dream, and your tears matter to Him. You are not crying out to Him in vain:

I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. (2 Kings 20:5 NIV)

During this waiting time, you get to rest with the Lord. This is real rest—genuine peace—that goes all the way through to your bones:

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matt. 11:28–29 NIV)

What are you dreaming of?

A best friend? A spouse? A child? A family and home?
