3 Things to Remember When Your Life Feels Out of Control
Not every “adventure with God” is something we can plan for. Sometimes our circumstances change without warning, and—suddenly—we find ourselves in a new season. The possibility of adventure is all around us, but there is also the possibility of anxiety and fear.
Here are three simple things to remember when your life feels out of control and everything is different.
What Is God Like When Everything Feels New and Different?
Go over the following points slowly. Choose the one that speaks to you the most, and turn it into a prayer, focusing on who the Lord is and how this affects your life.
Here are a few ideas for how you could pray:
“This is who You are. This verse/idea describes what You are doing in my life.”
“I can trust You to be this way for me every day, no matter what.”
“Because You are like this, I can be ___________.”
1. The Lord is so gentle with you. When you feel afraid of the unknown, He is cradling you in His arms.
God is a gentle Shepherd. Adventures aren’t always easy, but He Himself is very gentle with you and your family. He knows how to comfort in a way no one else does, and He knows the secrets of soothing your heart when you feel anxious.
He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young. (Isa. 40:11 NIV)
2. The Lord loves you more than you think, and He is never going to leave you.
Whatever has shifted in your life, don’t allow the enemy to tell you that you’re alone. Everywhere you go and everything you do in this unknown territory, the Lord is with you—and He is committed to you. He will stay with you no matter what it costs Him. He is not a God who gives up on His kids. He loves every interaction He has with you.
Be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid of them. Don’t be frightened. The Lord your God will go with you. He will not leave you or forget you. (Deut. 31:6 ICB)
He was still a long way from home when his father saw him; his heart was filled with pity, and he ran, threw his arms around his son, and kissed him. (Luke 15:20 GNT)
3. The peace of Jesus silences the storms in your life.
Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and the New Testament is filled with stories of how He conquered the darkness around Him. Let His peace into your heart today, because it dissolves the storms sent to damage you. His peace removes doubt and confusion. His peace brings back to life what has died in your heart. His peace heals your body and drives out what has kept you bound for years. When you feel anxious because everything is new and different, remember the Prince of Peace is walking beside you.
Yeshua took the child’s hand and said to her, “Talitha, koum!” which means, “Little girl, I’m telling you to get up!” The girl got up at once and started to walk. (She was twelve years old.) They were astonished. (Mark 5:41–42 NOG)
The child’s father cried out at once, “I believe! Help my lack of faith.” (Mark 9:24 NOG)
He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. (Matt. 8:26 NIV)
This Week, Remember…
Are you facing something new, and you aren’t sure what to do or how to make the anxiety leave?
Remember these three things: that Jesus is gentle with you, that He loves you more than you know, and that His peace quiets the storms in your life.
