Joy: God’s Gift to His Children

Do you feel discouraged right now?

Joy is coming!

Some of us think that being joyful doesn’t really matter. “I’m a strong person. I don’t need joy.” We don’t always realize that joy is actually a sign of strength (Neh. 8:10).

Joy is a Holy Spirit response within us when we have seen the beauty of God. A lack of joy is an invitation to take a deep breath and remember the Lord. When there is no joy, we’ve probably gotten too busy and need to return to childlike faith in Jesus (2 Cor. 11:3).

If you feel overwhelmed, discouraged, sad, hopeless, or “cold” inside, may the following truths cut through the heaviness and begin to shine God’s light in your heart. You are God’s child—joy comes naturally to you!

Declarations of Joy

  • The Lord is right here with me, and He is rejoicing over me (Zeph. 3:17).

  • Every day He is pleased with me (Ps. 147:11).

  • The Holy Spirit lives inside me, which means joy comes naturally to me (Gal. 5:22–23).

  • Joy fills my body with life (Prov. 17:22).

  • His joy is my strength (Neh. 8:10).

  • I am protected. The God of joy is my place of safety (Ps. 91:9).

  • The God of joy keeps me (Num. 6:24).

  • I will see how the God of joy can save people (Ps. 91:16).

  • God has redeemed me, and I am filled with joy (Ps. 71:23).

  • When I sow in tears, I will reap with joy (Ps. 126:5).

  • The stories of God make me happy (Ps. 119:111).

  • He is restoring to me the joy of my salvation (Ps. 51:12).

  • I trust in Him, and I am filled with joy (Ps. 33:21).

  • The words of God are the delight of my heart (Jer. 15:16).

  • He makes me joyful (Ps. 37:4).

  • My spirit rejoices in God my Savior (Luke 1:47).

  • He richly gives me everything to enjoy (1 Tim. 6:17).

  • The Lord has done great things for me, and I am filled with joy (Ps. 126:2–3).

  • I have “all joy” (Rom. 15:13 NIV).

  • God is the great joy of my heart (Isa. 61:10).

  • He delights in me—I fill Him with joy (Ps. 149:4).

Beloved child of God, may you be able to rest in God your Savior today. He loves you and delights in you. May His delight lead you to great joy!
