3 Christmas Prayers for the Person You Love
Do you long to see the Lord move in your partner’s life?
What would you LOVE to see Him do for the person you are dating?
Lectio divina is an ancient practice of praying the Scriptures back to the Lord. There are different ways to do this type of divine reading, but it basically looks like thoughtfully reading a verse and then praying the ideas or words to Jesus.
This is a powerful way to pray because you are using the holy Scriptures—the thoughts and ways of God—as your words. Using Scripture as the foundation of your prayers is always a brilliant move.
Here are three passages of Scripture out of the original Christmas story—when the Son of God came to earth as a Baby, and He was celebrated by angels and shepherds and people who had been waiting for the light of God to appear. You can use these verses as creative prayers for your partner.
Praying the Scriptures Back to God
Take the following three prayers and make them your own. Change the wording as necessary so each prayer fits your dating situation as well as your heart.
Blessing 1: The Gracious God
The angel said to her, “Don't be afraid, Mary; God has been gracious to you.” (Luke 1:30 GNT)
“Father God, thank You for bringing (person’s name) into my life. If there is any area where he/she is afraid this Christmas, I ask that You would give him/her courage there. May he/she be able to trust You there in brand-new ways. May he/she be able to grab hold of You and believe You in that place. If he/she believes a lie that is holding him/her captive, I ask that he/she would be able to look at You and really start to trust You instead. Thank You for Your graciousness in his/her life and that there truly is no reason for him/her to be afraid.”
Blessing 2: The God of the Impossible
Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible. (Luke 1:36–37 NKJV)
“Father God, You are the One who does impossible things. This Christmas, I ask that (person’s name) would be filled up with this understanding: that You do what the world says cannot be done. I pray that he/she would no longer be able to look at his/her life and think according to human standards and limitations. You are the God of the impossible! And You are with us in our relationship. Anything could happen—because of You and Your great love for us. May come to see You as the Miracle Worker You really are. May he/she see You do the impossible in his/her private life, his job, and also in our relationship.”
Blessing 3: The God Who Fulfills His Word
You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said. (Luke 1:45 NLT)
“Father God, may (person’s name) come to a place in his/her life where he/she is able to fully believe what You have said. May that kind of trust fill his/her heart today to such an extent that he/she does not question Your love, Your provision, or any of the good things You have in mind for us as a couple. May he/she completely believe what You have said about his/her future. May Your voice be the most prominent thing in his/her life. May the enemy be unable to confuse him/her anymore. May any darkness in his/her thinking be washed out of him/her and be replaced with Your divine light. I speak over him/her that he/she is blessed because he/she has believed that the Lord would do what He said.”
