Speaking Words of Life
One of the most beautiful things about life with Jesus is the ability to repeat His words. We get to agree with His love and promises instead of what the enemy is saying. Speaking words of life is powerful—more than we realize.
The Bible says the words we speak contain life or death (Prov. 18:21). So we get to decide which one we want to fill our heart, mind, relationships, and everything else.
We protect ourselves when we are careful about what we say:
Be careful what you say and protect your life. (Prov. 13:3 GNT)
When we choose to speak God’s words, we are speaking spirit and life:
The very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. (John 6:63 NLT)
The Bible is FILLED with words of life. Everything God says is abundant life.
Deuteronomy 31:6 is just one example:
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. (NIV)
That verse is life for fearful hearts and trembling souls. Here are a few ways you could use it to speak life into your current situation:
Speaking life when you’re afraid:
The next time you find yourself tempted to speak the words of fear, take Deuteronomy 31:6 and turn it into a prayer:
“Lord, You are with me in this situation, so I get to be strong, not timid—courageous, not shaking. You are my help, and I will have everything I need because of You.”
Speaking life when you’re single and don’t want to be:
There are only two options when we are waiting for God to move: We can be fearful and anxious about it, or we can choose to keep trusting Him. Deuteronomy 31:6 is a wonderful verse for those seasons when it seems like our dreams are taking forever:
“Father, thank You for being with me during this season of singleness. I know You have a wonderful plan for my life, and at the right time, You will set that plan in motion. Because You are with me, I get to be strong and courageous and not be afraid.”
Speaking life when you’re facing a huge decision:
Our “big” decisions tend to involve new territory. We’re trying to do something we’ve never done before, and we don’t immediately know which way to turn. Deuteronomy 31:6 is filled with life for all new seasons:
“Father, thank You for being with me in this unfamiliar territory. You are my wisdom, and I know You are helping me as I make this difficult decision. I get to be strong and courageous because of You.”
His words, His life
Don’t be afraid to speak words of life in dark times and places. God’s words are never empty, and they will accomplish exactly what He intends (Isa. 55:11).
