Trusting God in the Mystery

This month at Becoming the One, we’ve been talking about a culture of trust: trusting our heavenly Father with everything. Trust is especially important when we don’t know what’s going to happen or can’t see the path in front of us. Bill Johnson puts it like this: “Jesus is trustworthy, even in mystery.”
Living in a place of mystery isn’t easy, but if we are willing to trust the Lord in the middle of the mystery, when we have no idea how things are going to work out, we get to experience His beauty at a new level. We will see firsthand that He is everything His Word says.
He really is trustworthy (Isa. 26:4).
All His work is done in faithfulness (Ps. 33:4).
If you’re reading this, chances are you want to get married and have a family, but you’re in the waiting stage. The future you long for is still mysterious.
“When will I meet the right person? Where should I go to meet them? Do I need to volunteer more? Do I need to start online dating? Do I need to go to a different church?”
Every person who wants something and has to wait for it knows what mystery feels like. We can’t see the path clearly. We don’t know all the steps between where we are today and where we need to go. But Jesus is still trustworthy in that place.
We can trust the Lord when…
We don’t know how to move forward.
We don’t have the answer.
We don’t know what to do.
We’re frustrated.
We’re confused.
We’re wrestling with anxiety.
We want something and don’t have it yet.
When the path before us is dark, our decision to trust God sets a lantern in our hand. As we cling to Jesus in the mystery, we get to see with our own eyes—in a very personal way—that He is wonderful, completely faithful, and always means what He says.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding. (Prov. 3:5 NLT)
That verse applies to so many things—including whatever thing you are waiting on God for: the spouse, the child, the job, the healing, etc.
“Father, I can’t see that anything is happening right now, but I trust that You’re answering my prayers anyway.”
“I don’t know why this is taking so long, but I trust You.”
“I trust You with this dream.”
“I choose Your understanding of my situation, and I let go of everything I think ‘should be’ happening right now.”
Trust is where we see Jesus’ extravagant love and power the most clearly. If you are living in mystery right now, don’t be afraid to hold His hand and keep going. He will lead you to every good thing He has promised you. Praise the Lord!
