Choosing Vulnerability: Trusting God with Your Future

This month at Becoming the One, we’re talking about vulnerability. Not only is it a vital part of dating and marriage relationships, but it is also a daily part of our relationship with God.
Revelation 3:20 beautifully describes being vulnerable with Him:
Here, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If someone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he will eat with me. (CJB)
There is such tenderness in vulnerability! We are the beloved children of God, and we get to open the door of our heart and let Him come in. We choose Him over and over again, even when we don’t understand what He is doing.
Fear says, “This doesn’t make sense!”
But faith says, “I know my heavenly Father. He is good, and He will do what He said.” Faith takes vulnerability.
As we choose to be vulnerable with God, we experience the future He has for us.
One person in Scripture who chose to be vulnerable was Sarah, Abraham’s wife. As a result, she got to experience the amazing future God had for her:
By faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. (Heb. 11:11 NIV)
From a human perspective, God’s promise concerning her future seemed impossible. Sarah was an old woman at this point—how could she have a baby? But she opened the door of her heart and chose the Lord, and she experienced firsthand that what was impossible for the world was not impossible for her God.
What God wants to do in YOUR life might seem impossible right now. The future He has for you might seem like it’s a million miles away, but as you choose to be vulnerable with Him, you will experience His goodness.
Where do you need to be vulnerable with God?
Has He told you something that seems impossible?
Has He given you a promise about your future, and it’s a big one, and you have no idea how it will come about?
Is there a promise in Scripture you have a hard time believing because you feel ashamed or unworthy?
Are you overwhelmed at the thought of God using you in incredible ways?
Where is He asking you to open the door of your heart and trust Him with something “impossible”?
Beloved child of God, you are so precious to Him! Don’t be afraid to keep the door of your heart open to the faithful God who has excellent, abundant plans for your future.
Are you wondering what God is saying about your future?
