If we knew how much our heavenly Father loved us, if we could see His eyes as He looked at us and His face as He spoke, we would realize at a new level that our covenant with Him is unshakeable. It’s true what the Bible says—nothing can remove His love from us (Rom. 8:38–39).

A covenant is an unbreakable agreement between God and His people. It is not a small, wispy promise that blows apart in storms, but it is solid and secure—firmer than mountains.

Understanding our covenant with God erases many fears:

“Do I have value?” Yes. You are precious to Him (Isa. 43:4).

“What if I make a mistake? Will He reject me?” No, He won’t. You can run to Him when you’re in trouble, and He will take care of you (Deut. 31:6; Heb. 4:16).

“What if I’m not good enough?” You are His beloved child. You are more than good enough. He sees you without flaw (Songs 4:7). There is no possible way you could fall short.

This is how God feels about you:

You are His child (John 1:12).
He made you with His hands (Gen. 2:7).
He Himself breathed life into you (Gen. 2:7).
He arranged for you to be with Him forever (John 3:16).
He has made you completely new (2 Cor. 5:17).
You are a part of His kingdom, not the kingdom of darkness (Col. 1:13).
He has made you clean and holy (Acts 10:15).

Your covenant with God is based on Jesus, not on you and your ability to “be a good person.” You can rest secure in Him.

Precious child, do you feel anxious in your relationship with God?

Take a few moments, and think of something you feel uncertain about in your relationship with Him. Maybe it’s a sin in your past: “Has God really forgiven me?” Or maybe you feel like you don’t measure up: “How do I know He won’t reject me?”

Go to a quiet spot by yourself, and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you. What does He say about this fear? What does the Bible say? Take note of any verses, or pieces of verses, that come to mind.
