Going for a Prayer Walk

Did you know…?

You are so precious to God the Father that when you pray, He treasures your words, as well as the heart behind them. You may not feel special to the Lord right now, but that is what you are. For your heavenly Father, every word you speak in prayer is like another gem that goes into His treasure chest.

There are many ways we can pray, and this week let’s talk about one that gets us out of the house and into the spring sunshine: going for prayer walks.

Go by yourself or with your significant other, take some friends, or arrange for your church group to go out together. You could prayer walk in your neighborhood, through downtown, around a church, around a college, down a specific street, through a city park, or wherever else you feel led.

If you aren’t sure what to pray, here are a few ideas based on Scripture and the wonderful, beautiful blessings of God. Keep in mind that He is love, and He wants to bless people, even those who don’t know Him yet (Matt. 5:44–45).

Prayer Ideas for While You’re Walking

  • Lord, Your Word says that You richly meet all our needs. May every need of every person who lives/works on this street (or campus, in the neighborhood, goes to this church, etc.) be met according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:19).

  • Lord, You are the God of incredible blessing, and You want the people You created to live abundant lives. May everyone who is in debt in this area encounter the wisdom, favor, and abundant goodness of God (3 John 1:2).

  • The unfailing love of the Lord lives on this street, and His love will last forever here (Ps. 89:1–2).

  • May the light of God dwell in every home and business on this street (Matt. 4:16).

  • May fear have no foothold on this street. May the love of the Lord drive out every fear, every worry, and every unhealthy concern from the hearts and minds that live/work here (1 John 4:18).

  • May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard the hearts and minds of the people who live/work on this street (Phil. 4:7).

  • May the people who live/work here remember the Lord and experience all His benefits (Ps. 103:1–5).

  • May the blessing of the Lord fall on this street so that every hard place becomes soft and produces a bountiful harvest (Ps. 65:10).

  • May all those who live/work here find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. May they be protected from every form of darkness, pain, discouragement, and fear (Ps. 91).

  • May the goodness of the Lord be easily seen on this street (Ps. 145:9).

Anytime we pause and—even quietly—speak words of blessing over a person, house, business, church, school, or whatever else, those words carry power and the blessing of Heaven. It is good for the soul to pray God’s blessing over others.

May the abundant blessing of God surround your heart and mind this week! May you encounter His joy everywhere you turn.
