Being Thankful Is a Game Changer in Your Dating Life!

Greetings from Becoming the One!

Dear Becoming the One family,

This month at Becoming the One, we’re talking about a culture of thanksgiving, which leads to transformation. The simple choice to be thankful impacts so many things: how we interact with our loving heavenly Father, the way we view the world around us—and even how we see the very special person He has chosen to be our spouse.

No one is perfect, and it can be easy to adopt a critical spirit that nitpicks and repeatedly points out someone’s failures. But if we can train ourselves to see the good and be thankful for it, our hearts will become so much softer. We will enjoy life more, and—even more important—we will fall more in love with God and with our spouse.

Being thankful opens the door to amazing, very practical blessings of God.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:6–7 NIV)

What a special thing it is to build up your spouse instead of focusing on their faults!

Asking these questions can be a game changer in dating and marriage:

“What am I thankful for about this person?”

“How can I make my significant other happy today?”

“How can I let this person know I truly delight in them?”

God has only good plans for you and your spouse (Jer. 29:11). As you are thankful, even for the very small things, you stir up the good soil in your heart—where God can plant anything He wants, and those seeds will grow and produce fruit.

Even if you are single right now, you can practice being thankful in your life and relationships, and one day your future marriage will be that much sweeter!

In His love,
