This month at Becoming the One, we’re talking about a culture of wisdom. The wisdom of God is life for us. It is a smooth and steady path beneath our feet that doesn’t always make sense to our natural mind, and yet afterward we can look back and see how everything worked out perfectly.

The wisdom of God requires trust on our part, but when we say “yes” to it, even when we don’t understand at first, we will have hope and peace.

All of us need wisdom in dating. Most of us know the pain of jumping into a relationship too quickly or, conversely, the pain of being afraid.

But dating can be glorious when we realize we have help! We get to go to our heavenly Father and ask Him for wisdom—for what He knows that we need to know. The Bible promises that every time we ask Him for wisdom, He will give it.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5 NKJV)

When we pray, God will tell us astounding things we didn’t know previously. This includes dating:

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. (Jer. 33:3 NIV)

Do you wish you knew “great and unsearchable” things about who you should date or who you are dating? The wisdom of God is all encompassing. Everywhere we are experiencing pain and confusion, He has wisdom for us.

When we’re tired of waiting: “Father, I want to get married and have a family, but it’s taking longer than I expected. What do I need to know right now so that this waiting season will become easier for me? Please give me wisdom.”

When we keep falling for the wrong kind of person: “Father, why do I keep getting hurt? Does something need to be healed in my heart? Please give me wisdom about who to date and who to avoid.”

When we want to meet the right person: “Father, is there anything I can do right now to prepare for marriage? Please give me wisdom.”

Those are just three ways we can pray for dating wisdom from God—who delights in sharing His wisdom with us.

Beloved child of God, if you want your dating life to look different than it does today, ask Him for wisdom.
