Beholding the Beauty of the Lord
Our God is beautiful. His beauty is all around us, surrounding us like air or gravity. It plays a constant role in our life.
But we don’t always see it. We get caught up worrying about earthly things, and our eyes are distracted.
We need to see the beauty of the Lord—the same way we need air or gravity. He’s the One who makes everything right, and He’s the answer to all our fears.
The beauty of God—who He really is—becomes more visible as we spend time thinking about Him and being thankful for His identity. Every time we pause to consider even the simplest aspect or picture of His beauty, we are changed—perhaps slightly, perhaps a lot.
Here’s a glimpse of the beauty of God and some simple ways we can thank Him.
A Father to the Fatherless
A father of the fatherless and a judge and protector of the widows,
Is God in His holy habitation. (Ps. 68:5 AMP)
Prayer: Thank You, Father, that Your heart is soft and tender toward those who have suffered. You really do bind up the wounds of the brokenhearted, and You heal and make us whole, stepping in to defend us and judge on our behalf. You are not far away when we’re in pain and don’t know what to do. You are there to defend us when we need it.
The God Who Keeps His Word
By faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. (Heb. 11:11 NIV)
Prayer: Thank You, Father, that You will do what You promised. It doesn’t matter whether or not I see it happening right now. It doesn’t matter if the world says it’s impossible. You are going to do what You said, and I will see Your goodness.
The God Who Gives Rest to His People
The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” (Ex. 33:14 NIV)
Prayer: Father, what an amazing thing it is that You want to give me rest. You are not interested in using me up, like a resource, or working me until there’s nothing left, but You want to take care of me in a very practical way. You give me rest and restore my soul. You really are my Redeemer and Comforter. Thank You.
This month at Becoming the One, we’ve been talking about a culture of thanksgiving. A thankful heart leads to permanent transformation. Barry Bennett says:
“The thankful heart is always focused on the best. It is focused on healing, abundance, blessings, opportunities, and all the promises of God. Faith lives in the environment of thankfulness.”
