Being Thankful Destroys Darkness

Thanksgiving is a powerful act of spiritual warfare.
As believers in Jesus, we have so much to be thankful for. Here are just a few of the incredible things we have because of Him—and each of them is directly or indirectly linked to undoing the works of the enemy:
He forgives all our sins (Ps. 103:3).
He heals all our diseases (Ps. 103:3).
We are already healed (1 Pet. 2:24).
He has saved us from death (Ps. 103:4).
He crowns us with love and tender mercy (Ps. 103:4).
He fills our life with good things (Ps. 103:5).
He even renews our youth (Ps. 103:5).
We belong to Him (Isa. 43:1).
We can hear His voice and don’t follow any voice that isn’t His (John 10:4–5).
All our sins are gone forever (Ps. 103:12).
The past has no control over us (Rom. 8:1).
Fear is defeated in our life (Rom. 8:15).
The enemy is under our feet (Ps. 91:13).
God has removed sickness from our midst (Ex. 23:25).
We are blessed when we come in and blessed when we go out (Deut. 28:6).
We are abundantly blessed and have more than enough (Deut. 28:8).
He blesses the work of our hands (Ps. 90:17).
We enjoy the fruit of our labor (Ps. 128:2).
Jesus came to destroy the enemy’s work:
The Son of God came for this purpose: to destroy the devil’s work. (1 John 3:8 ICB)
Praise and thanksgiving stop the darkness:
They know God, but they do not give him the honor that belongs to him, nor do they thank him. Instead, their thoughts have become complete nonsense, and their empty minds are filled with darkness. (Rom. 1:21 GNT)
You have taught children and babies
to sing praises to you.
This is because of your enemies.
And so you silence your enemies
and destroy those who try to get even. (Ps. 8:2 ICB)
Being thankful hinders the enemy’s work. When we thank God, we are acknowledging Him and His power in our life, which means we are rejecting the enemy’s power.
The enemy’s influence can be subtle. We don’t always recognize when we’re afraid, discouraged, weighed down, doubting, or hopeless—but God has given us a powerful weapon to destroy the enemy’s work in our dating life, marriage, family, future, business, country, etc.
Give thanks to the Lord because he is good,
because his mercy endures forever. (1 Chron. 16:34 GW)
Let thankfulness pour out of your heart!
This month at Becoming the One, we’re talking about a culture of thanksgiving, which leads to abundant transformation. Being thankful rebukes darkness, and it softens our heart toward the Lord, strengthening our agreement with His wonderful light.
“Yes! I love who You are in my life! I love what You are doing!”
Let’s be thankful for the amazing things God has done. Thankfulness is a mighty sword that cuts the darkness in two.
