Dating Without Poverty Thinking

Unfortunately, a lot of Christians approach dating with a poverty mindset or what some call a poverty spirit. They believe things like:
“There is not enough for me.”
“All the good ones are taken.”
“Dating is a fierce competition! I have to be better than everybody else because there isn’t enough for everyone.”
But here’s what we need to remember…
We do not serve the God of lack. Nor do we serve the God of almost enough or barely enough.
We serve the God of more than we could possibly imagine!
Just as that is true for His provision, His glory, and His goodness, it is true for dating too.
This means…
There is enough for you.
There is a “good one” set aside for you too.
This is not a competition. There is nothing to win. You get to trust the Lord and follow His leading, and leave poverty thinking behind.
This is a description of your dating life:
To him who by means of his power working in us is able to do so much more than we can ever ask for, or even think of: to God be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus for all time, forever and ever! Amen. (Eph. 3:20–21 GNT)
You are a child of God, not a beggar.
You don’t need to think like a beggar when it comes to dating. You don’t have to settle for anybody because “there isn’t enough.” Your future spouse is certainly not settling for you! Because you are your Father’s child, and you are a prize.
Poverty thinking leads to fear and trying to make things happen in our own strength.
“Oh no! There’s not enough! I have to go on the offensive and force my dreams to happen!”
But no. We get to rest in the loving arms of our heavenly Father as He carries us forward and shows us what to do at the right time.
This month at Becoming the One, we’re talking about being vulnerable, and part of vulnerability is choosing to think according to God’s heart and His Word. We get to say “no” to poverty thinking and “yes” to God’s abundant thinking.
The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]. (John 10:10 AMP)
Dare to believe the good news about your future! Because God has good plans for you that include more than enough.
