Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help

Do you need dating advice…but you’re afraid to ask for it?

Many of us believe we need to do things on our own. We think that if we can figure things out by ourselves, we’re somehow more powerful than those who ask for help.

“It is weakness to depend on other people.”

“I can’t ask for help. They might say no.”

“I can do everything myself.”

“I don’t need anyone’s help to figure this out.”

But the Bible paints a wonderful picture of what the Christian life looks like.

When we need help, we get to ask for it. We are one part of a whole, and all the parts help each other:

The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable… God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. (1 Cor. 12:21–26 ESV)

This month at Becoming the One, we’ve been talking about vulnerability. One huge part of being vulnerable is asking for help when we need it.

❤️ Are you single and want to get married, but you don’t know where to go or how to meet new people? Well, who do you know who has a great marriage? Could you ask them for advice and prayer?

❤️ Are you struggling in your dating relationship? Does the relationship need fixing, but you don’t know what to do? Who do you know who could counsel you and pray with you?

Where do you need help? Instead of hiding that place or feeling embarrassed about it, find someone who can help you.

Also, remember your heavenly Father.

Some of us are so used to doing things on our own that we don’t think to ask God for help. We can overlook verses like Hebrews 4:16:

Let us, then, feel free to come before God’s throne. Here there is grace. And we can receive mercy and grace to help us when we need it. (ICB)

Remember to ask God for help too. ❤️

This week, may you find the help you need!

May you have the courage to approach a God-loving, mature mentor and ask for help. You might be surprised at how willing certain people are to help others. Someone might have the exact answer you need.

Here at Becoming the One, we care for you, and we want to help you too!

How can we pray for you? Please write and let us know! We love prayer, and you are very important to us. ❤️

Your heavenly Father loves you more than you realize! For more about His amazing, unending love, check out Becoming the One by Salomé Roat. The book is also available in Spanish.
