Declarations for When You Need Wisdom in Your Dating Life

As believers in Jesus, we don’t have to be afraid when things get tough and we don’t know what to do.

In times of confusion and uncertainty, we can go to our heavenly Father and ask Him for wisdom. This is what He promises each of us:

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (Jas. 1:5 NIV)

It doesn’t even matter if you’re in this uncertain position because of a mistake! God gives wisdom “without finding fault.” So when you ask for His wisdom, confidently believe He will give it to you (v. 6).

This week at BTO, we’re asking the Lord to give you His wisdom for your dating life. May you be so filled up with His wisdom that it spills out of you as peace, joy, and hope for other people!

Here are three Bible-based statements that are true for you today:

1. I declare I belong to Jesus Christ, and He sets me free from confusion and fear! God is faithful in MY life, and I can trust Him to give me the answers I need.

But those who wish to boast
should boast in this alone:
that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord
who demonstrates unfailing love
and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth,
and that I delight in these things.
I, the Lord, have spoken! (Jer. 9:24 NLT)

Sit down with Jeremiah 9:24 and ask God how it applies to your dating life. What is He saying to you through this verse? How is He leading you and filling you with hope for the future?

He speaks in so many different, wonderful ways! Depending on how He wants to talk to you right now, His voice in your heart might sound something like this:

“I am with you, and you can trust Me to bring about My promises in their proper time. Come closer and get to know Me more. As you come to understand I am the Lord, you will be amazed at My wisdom.”

2. I declare God’s wisdom is greater than I can imagine, and He offers it to me freely every time I ask. I will even be able to use His wisdom to help other people.

God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. (1 Kings 4:29 NIV)

Beloved child of God, there is never any reason for you to live in despair! Whatever is going on in your life, take it to Jesus and ask Him how 1 Kings 4:29 applies to you.

You have incredible value in God’s heart. His love for you is deeper than the sea. It is so great that He sent His only Son to be the sacrifice in your place, so He could have you with Him. THAT is the God who wants to give you wisdom today.

3. I declare God is not far away from me. He is RIGHT HERE with me, and He wants to meet all my needs—even when I need to grow in a skill.

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:19 NIV)

See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills. (Ex. 31:2–3 NIV)

Are there any areas in your dating life where you know you need to grow? Maybe it’s your patience, your temper, or your ability to trust God when He tells you to wait.

Spend time with your heavenly Father and ask Him how these two verses—Philippians 4:19 and Exodus 31:2–3—apply to you. What would it look like to have all your needs met? And to be filled with God-given skills? What about His understanding and knowledge?

The Lord loves you and wants to fill you up with His Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13). You can trust Him with every point of pain and confusion, every shaky place, and every question in your dating life.

Before you go!

Every time you ask the Lord for wisdom, you’re basically saying, “Please come and be closer to me in this area.” He is the Spirit of wisdom (Isa. 11:2), and every day we have an open invitation to step closer to Him and listen for His guidance, so we can do things His way.

Here’s our prayer for you this week:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for every person reading this! We ask that You would fill them up with wisdom this week, so they know which way to turn. If they’re struggling in their relationship, we ask that You would meet them exactly where they are, take them by the hand, and lead them forward. Your ways are filled with hope!

Please help them to trust You with all their hearts. You are wonderful and amazing, and we know You have good plans for Your children. Thank You for being so quick to share Your wisdom with us.
